Excruciating pain!!!

For the past few weeks, my left shoulder blad has been hurting... the last few days I have been in blinding pain - horrible radiating pain in my left shoulder blade.... spasms and it hurts sooo much.... I am trying not to cry but I cant help it....

What is it? Did I pull something? Would I have done this to myself anyway or does this have anything to do with me being PG?

to top it off, DH said it would be ok to take advil, so I took 4 today - 2 in the morning, 2 in the afternoon - mind you - I NEVER take anything, EVER... so this is saying a lot.... I finally call the dr, and they say I can't take Advil.... only tylenol, so now I'm upset that I took them and am worried I did something to the baby....

i have to go run a social skills group now, and have to stop crying from the pain - I literally am cryong....

anyone else have pain like this????

Re: Excruciating pain!!!

I am sorry about your shoulder....I have had the same symptoms and had to get muscle relaxors to make it go away.

As for the advil, yes, you are not supposed to take it and don't do it again, but I am sure the baby is fine. I had a blinding headache about a month ago and I took tylenol and like it always does (even pre preg) it made me throw up. So, I took two advil and I felt better.

I told my doctor at my next appointment and she told me not to make a habit of it, but that it wasn't a big deal now. I think advil has some type of blood thinning quality to it (my father who takes blood thinners already cannot take them) so that is why they say not to take it.

Don't stress, it won't help your shoulderChat Icon

ETA: I have had shoulder problems for pretty much my whole life. They actually have not acted up since I have been pregnant.

I am sure the baby is OK but I would recommend seeing a chiropractor -- they can do wonders!!

I think you should try a chiropractor that adjust maternity patients. Right now your body is releasing hormones that allow your muscles, ligaments, etc to stretch to accomodate the baby. It's possible that you may have affected your shoulder.

If you need a chiro referral, I used Dr.Sherr in Northport but would only recommend him (I had the doctor on call adjust me when I was pregnant & I think it caused me to go into premature labor - a much different adjustment than the other ones I had received.)

Re: Excruciating pain!!!

When you called the Dr about the Advil..did you mention the shoulder pain? What did they say?

Or did you call a regular Dr?

If its that bad, you should be finding out why as soon as possible.

Im sure the advil was ok, it was just once Chat Icon

Re: Excruciating pain!!!

I am sure the advil is ok, you are far enough along, just dont take it again in the future. For the shoulder pain I would definitely see a chiropractor, you could have a pinched nerve or something else. they can probalby fix you up pretty quickly. by any chance, being we technically can't sleep on our backs, was that the shoulder you were sleeping on before it started hurting?

Re: Excruciating pain!!!

Not sure if chiropractors are covered, but I just want to say that I've been getting left shoulder blade pain on and off too. Not as bad as you yet, though (fingers crossed). I hope you feel better soon!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Excruciating pain!!!

Don't know if this might be it...but I had severe shoulder pain around my 4 month mark...realized it was sleeping on the side on that shoulder. After that i was very conscience of switching it up every night. It felt better, but my shoulders (and hips!) were sore throughout my pregnancy.

I was a belly sleeper prior to being pregnant.

It depends on your insurance.

See your regular doctor as well, in fact, you may be able to get a referral for a chiro from them and that may help with insurance paying for it.

Re: Excruciating pain!!!

Sorry to crash, but I think you should call a Physical Therapy office to see. My BIL is an intern at a PT practice...and he has all kinds of massage gadgets and things that I think might help!
