experience regarding renting property

Does anyone here rent out property? we are currently in our coop but need to buy a house (need more space). DH wants to rent our coop, but I am very nervous about it. I'm afraid of getting a bad tenant!

Any advice/suggestions? what made you decide to rent out?

We have rental properties. Definitely let a realtor handle it. They will run their credit and can screen people out, saving you some time.

I personally do not rent out a property BUT my good friends do and they have been very lucky and have great tenants...on the other hand, a family member hasn't been so lucky. Doesn't get the rent ontime, if ever so it just depends on your tenants.

I have a tenant and it's been ok. He doesn't pay the rent on time at all. Eventually we get it but most the time I am hunting him down.

I did have a realtor find him for me and he is paying over market for the place but it's a pain.
