Experience with Laryngitis...
Benjamin has it! :( It started Tuesday morning and he is feeling a little better now but still doesn't sound too good. Tuesday we spent a lot of time in a steamed bathroom and it really helped him to breath. He was SO exhausted from all the discomfort, he fell asleep in my lap several times with the hot water running and running and running.
Last night was not good, he sounded horrible and woke up many times. We tried to take him back into a steamed bathroom but he would only want to stay for 5 minutes and luckily would fall back asleep.
We are giving him antibiotics (azithromycin) and albuterol to loosen the mucus. My question though is this: he coughs it up and it even comes up in his mouth but I can't get him to spit[ it out, of course. It ends up just going into what I HOPE, is his digestive track rather than back in his trachea.
Is that what happens? Ideally of course, he needs to spit it out and if he was older he would but at 22 months, he is not getting it...
Does any moms have experience with laryngitis in children this young? How long did it last, did the mucus just disintergate and went away? Or should I try to get him to spit it out...
Any experience you can share would be appreciated!

Re: Experience with Laryngitis...
my dd had larygitis but she didnt have alot of phlem or anything like that. she just had a raspy voice. BUT my son has had colds when he had lots of mucus. and he is 2.5 years old and he does not know how to spit it out either. eventually it all just built up in his tummy and he vomited a good portion of it out. after that the meds relieved alot of it also. it will pass soon. i know its terrible to see them coughing so bad. believe me i know!!

about 5 days or so. not very long, it just seems alot longer when you see them unhappy. he should be 100% in no time. how long has he been on the meds??
