Experienced CIOers advice needed!!
We Ferberized DS a couple of months ago with great success. He is still doing pretty good, but our recent vacation threw him for a loop. He is now waking up 1-3 times a night. We try letting him CIO, but he stands up in his crib and we are confused about what to do. Do we lay him back down or do we let him stand until he gets tired of standing. Unfortunately, I have searched and searched through Ferber's book for any advice, but he doesn't address this issue in it. I was just wondering what approach others took. TIA!!!

I would let him stand until he gets tired. My dd only got worse when we went in to check on her so laying her back down would have only made the crying last longer. good luck

Eventually he will get tired and lie down, give it some time and be strong!

I agree with the poster who said that laying down their dc only made matters worse. I do all I can to avoid going in. Watching the video monitor helps b/c I know that dc is not in any kind of danger.

Re: Experienced CIOers advice needed!!
Okay thank you for posting this!! I don't mean to hijack, but I keep going in and laying DD back down and then she gets up again screaming. This has been going on for fourty five minutes now She used to be such a great sleeper but she hates her crib now. I'm going to stop going in and see what happens! I feel so mean, but I don't know what else to do at this point!

Re: Experienced CIOers advice needed!!
I have been through this and my ped said during cio when they 1st start crying you just go in, do not turn any lights on, do not talk to your dc, and do not make eye contact. He said you just want to take a peak to make sure they're not stuck and they didn't vomit, then you get right out. He said a child could cry up to 4hrs (but wont) before they fall back to sleep. He also said the problem would be resolved with in a wk. When I did this with my ds it worked in 4days and he didn't cry longer then maybe 45mins. I wish you lots of luck I know how hard it can be.

Definitely leave him. Going in always seemed to make it worse for Ava.

Re: Experienced CIOers advice needed!!
Thank you all for your advice!!! Last night went okay. DS's crib is in our room so that makes things tricky!! Peeking and seeing him standing there crying was tough, but he only cried 3 times. The first 2 for less then 10 min. The last time was around 5:15am. He cried for 25min and then I gave n and fed him. He went right back to sleep and slept until 8:45am!!! Keeping our fingers crossed that he sleeps through the night tonight.
