explain to me dressing baby
I am clueless!
How do you know what to dress them in?
I read somewhere that good rule is to dress your baby one layer more than you. (So if you were short sleeve, they were long.)
But I need more specifics. When do they where onesees. Are they undershirts?
What do they sleep in, etc.?

Re: explain to me dressing baby
Right now, i have my dd (3.5months) in a onsie, with a top over that and pants, socks. - when she goes out, shes in a bundle me, with a hat, with the otherstuff.
bedtime: long sleeve onesie, pjs and then i put her in a sleep sac.
newborn: she wore a t-shirt buttons on side, pjs most of the day and went to bed in sleep sac also.
eta: also wore a hat to bed as newborn, until it kept falling off, then i stopped.

Re: explain to me dressing baby
I think each baby is different. My DS seems to run hot, so we dont put any extra layers on him. A typical day he wears a long sleeve onesie shirt and pants, with socks. At night, he sleeps in footed pjs with nothing underneath. One night I put a tshirt(sidesnap) on first under the footed pjs, and he woke up sweaty so that was the end of that for us.

Re: explain to me dressing baby
ok, so you can really tell if they are cold to touch or sweaty warm.
I guess I am afraid I won't know.
I was in BRU and bought some onesees and a woman asked me if those are used for undershirts. I just looked at her and smiled and said, "You asked the wrong person, I am just buying them because they are on sale and I know I should have them."

Re: explain to me dressing baby
The Girlfiriends guide to Pregnancy has a section on dressing the baby for the first time and type of clothes you should buy. Apparently its very difficult and intimidating the first time, so pick your "coming home" outfit with care. You don't want anything that goes over the head, but something that buttons on the side.
I know its not really related to your topic, but thought it was close enough...

Re: explain to me dressing baby
Um, I'm a little confused over here (so thank you for asking this). Do the onesies act like an undershirt? They go under a separate outfit? Or are the onesies worn by themselves (but maybe with pants and socks)?
I'm clearly a moron on this subject.
