Extending manufacturer warranty on car...

Is it better to do it through the car dealership or a private company. I've read reasons for both sides...and I'm just not sure which way to go. Obviously, going through the manufacturer is more expensive. I have a few weeks to decide? Any advice or info on this?

for my last car, i did it through the dealership and had zero problems getting service covered. however, i know that if you go through an outside company, the dealerships can give you a hard time about what is and what isn't covered.

I actually did it through the dealership when I had a chevy and they did it through a 3rd party. The first time I went to use it they told me that the company that it was underwritten with went bankrupt so we were out a few hundred $$.

I would go through the car company if you can - just make sure they are the one holding the policy. i.e. toyota, honda, etc.
