Fabric mill, or other places for custom curtains
Soo, I have been looking all over for curtains and haven't been able to find anything I like. I am thinking about going to Fabric Mill or any fabric place to find a fabric I like and then have the curtains made (I just need basic panels.).
Any thoughts? I hear fabric mill has great prices on fabrics but maybe not the best service? (But I'm hoping since I just need simple panels that I wouldn't have any problems?). Does anyone know of anywhere else where you can bring fabric to have made into curtains? Money IS an issue, so trying to keep the cost as reasonable as possible.
TIA for any advice you can share!

Re: Fabric mill, or other places for custom curtains
I've had pillows made at Fabric Mill. I was very happy with the job they did, and it was pretty reasonably priced. I'd recommend them. If you are concerned about cost, be careful with the fabric you pick because that is what really jacks the price up. The sewing cost is really incidental.

Re: Fabric mill, or other places for custom curtains
I bought a heavy cotton damask fabric through Fabric.com when having panels made for my living room. It was incredibly cheap! And the color was exactly as depicted. I paid less than $45 for 6 yards of fabric, no tax and free shipping. If you know exactly what you want, I would recommend using them. I've also used Brickhousefabrics.com. They have such unique custom fabric but their prices reflect that.

Thanks so much! I looked on fabric.com last night and I think I'm going to order some swatches.
May I ask where you had your curtains made once you bought the fabric?

Custom window treatments are expensive.
I bought fabric at Fabric Mill and had Mill End shops in E Islip make them (I heard the sameas you re: Fabric Mill). Cost me $250/window. That was just for balloon valances. Plus the cost of the fabric. I think I paid $14.99/yard, I don't remember how much I needed - I think 21 yards? I could be way off though.

Re: Fabric mill, or other places for custom curtains
I have used Fabric Mill and I thought their prices were good. I got a quote from Ethan Allen using cheaper fabric and I got them don at FM for half the cost. I wasn't thrilled with the customer service, but the price and product made up for it.
There's also - Calico Corners, Melani's Moods in Plainview and there's a shop in Syosset on Jasckson Ave right off Jericho, but I cant remember what its called. Also try Smith and Noble Online.

Re: Fabric mill, or other places for custom curtains
I don't know if you can bring fabric that you purchased outside of the fabric mill to them to sew. I think you need to get your fabric from them. With that said, they have great prices, and a really good selection. My mom had them custom make some pillows for her and she had to have them redo them 3 times. The first time they were too small, the second time they used the wrong fabric, and the last time they were perfect. So I think you need to be really specific about what you want. The quality was first rate.
