Facebook-did you ever get a friend request from someone you didnt know?
I am fairly new to facebook, still learning-i received a friend request from a girl in Germany,I have no idea who she is....
is this common?

I usually reject them, but it doesn't happen that often. Maybe b/c I have my privacy settings really high so you can only search for me as a friend of a friend I think...

same here. I actually emailed her through facebook and asked her "Do I know you?" She never bothered to respond, so I didn't accept her friend invite.

I used to get that a lot....friends of friends that enjoyed "collecting" friends and adding to their list would try to add me.... If I don't know a person, I reject the request.

I got one. I didn't recognize the name and looked to see if we had any friends in common and we didn't. So I just ignored the request.

I usually check to see who our mutual friends are.... if it looks like it's someone from LIW, I'll usually accept. If they are friends with a lot of my friends I will also usually accept.
If I really have no clue who they are, I'll send them a message that says "do I know you?" in which case they usually dont respond and I decline in a day or so.

It is fairly common. Like others have said, unless it is someone from here (I will generally ask what their screen name is if we have friends in common if I do not recognize their name or their picture), or we have other friends in common so I can figure out who they are are, I will ignore them.
I don't need friends just to have them. I only want friends on Facebook to keep "tabs" on people I already know!   It really is a good way to keep up with people from your past!
