Failed one hour glucose test....have a question..updated at bottom with score
I just received a phone call that the sugar was high from my 1 hour glucose test and I have to take the 3 hour glucose test, my question is - does anyone know how common it is to pass the 3 hour test when failing the 1 hour?
also, I can't take the test until Sat. SHOULD I watch my sugar till then or eliminate it ? I know I should've asked my Dr. these questions, but they called me at work, and I couldn't really talk at the moment,
I am a little sad about this. Can it hurt the baby?

Re: Failed one hour glucose test....have a question...
i failed both the 1 hour and 3 hour and was diagnosed with GD.
what was your number for the 1 hour? i have noticed those who hovered right above passing usually pass the 3 hour with flying colors. i believe my number was 170 for the 1 hour.

Re: Failed one hour glucose test....have a question...
This just happened to me. I failed the one hour by 21 points. Prior to taking the 3 hour, I watched what I ate in the sense that I didn't add any sugar to my diet; no desserts. I made sure I drank a lot of water. The day before, I started fasting at 3 pm for a 7 am test. I had read that I should fast anywhere from 12 - 15 hours so I wanted to make sure I fasted for the longer period of time. Morning of the test, I had a glass of water and that was it. I passed the 3 hour test without one abnormality.
Good Luck!

Re: Failed one hour glucose test....have a question...
My doctor told me that it's really common to fail the 1 hour and pass the 3 hour.
With my first pregnancy I passed the 1 hour no problem. This time I failed the 1 hour and passed the 3 hour no problem. I didn't alter my diet at all for any of the tests. I figured that I wanted to know what was going on based on how I really eat, so that if there was a problem I could address it rather than just mask it.

Re: Failed one hour glucose test....updated at bottom with score
Thanks girls, I just called the dr. for my score and it was 139 and the cut-off is 135 - so I should be ok? I just don't want to hurt the baby, so If I have it I have it - why wouldn't they do the 3 hour test to begin with and eliminate the 1 hour. No diet changes / insulin if you pass the 3 hour??

I will be shocked if you fail the 3 hour. I wouldn't alter your diet at all. If you do have GD you want to find out. GD can cause big babies and premature labor if not regulated. So you really want to know if you do have it

I failed the one hour, too, but passed the 3 hour with flying colors. My doctor told me it's totally common to fail the one hour. She said some people the fasting helps, others the fasting hurts, etc., etc. So who knows?

I agree - if you have it, its more important that they diagnose it and treat you...
good luck - you will do fine!
