Falling asleep in high chair?

Ellie just started doing this and I tried to move her up to her crib and now she's up there awake and crying when she should be napping Chat Icon Obviously that was a mistake! Chat IconWhat do you all do? Do you let them nap in there? Recline the seat?

I let him nap in there. I figure he's comfortable enough to fall asleep, I'm not messing with it. I stay in the room and keep an eye on him just in case.

I didn't. I wanted them to get into the habit of napping in their crib.

Re: Falling asleep in high chair?

Julia use to fall asleep in her highchair all the time, I would just leave her in there and recline the seat back, she would take some pretty long naps in there--lol

ETA: We co-sleep, so it didn't matter to me that she would fall asleep in it.

I don't want her too, but how did you handle it b/c taking her out woke her up and now she won't go back to sleep and this is normally a 1hr or 1 and 1/2 hour nap. She can't skip this one, she'll be a nightmare all day if she does.

Nope mine is like that too. I can not even grasp the concept of a baby falling asleep in their highchair. My son would never - its hard enough getting him to sleep in his crib!

Re: Falling asleep in high chair?

Recline the seat and let her sleep. That's what I do for my grandson when he falls alseep in his highchair. Doesn't hurt him and he gets the sleep he needs.

Nah, I'm with you guys on that. I'm totally and completely baffled that there are babies out there who quietly fall asleep in their high chair. In fact, I *almost* hate the moms who have such easy babies Chat Icon Chat Icon

If I saw them getting tired, they went right to the crib. I have seen them nodding off. I quietly get them out of the chair & bring them to their crib. Worked like a charm for me.

Also the Baby Whisperer Book listed the signs of being tired which helped tremendously.

My kids never had any issue napping, just sleeping in the crib at night because I was a CIO failure.

I would think it's ok once & awhile - but you want her to associate the crib with sleeping.

Re: Falling asleep in high chair?

It never became a habit, but the few times that it happened, I let them sleep and recline the high chair.

How were you a CIO failure?
I am wondering if I am too...it used to work like a charm and lately it hasn't been working, DD gets so worked up and I end up going in and rocking her back to sleep since nothing else will work...Does this constitute failure?

ETA: sorry to hijack your post!

Re: Falling asleep in high chair?

My son is almost 2 and is just developing the habit of wanting to nap in his highchair (for the longest time it was only the stroller and you have to walk him - so I don't mind). I recline adn let him nap away. he is napping there as I type.
