False Negative?? UPDATED

Anyone ever had one on a digital OTC? DH and I aren't exactly ttc but I'm a little concerned bc I have been feeling a little crampy the past few mornings with no period. I am usually right on schedule and only cramp one or two days at most before AF comes. I took an OTC a couple of days ago (digital) and it came out negative. Has anyone ever had or heard of false negatives when testing a few days early with a digital test?

Update: So I have tested 3 more times since last weekend (the most recent being this morning) and all negative - But still no AF. I’m thinking by now if I was pregnant, an OTC would come up right? This is so weird. I am usually very regular and I have NEVER skipped a period. Does anyone know of any other reason this may be happening? I don’t know if I am overreacting or if I should be concerned.

Re: False Negative??

Most digitals are not as sensitive as the line tests so I would definitely retest again in a few days.

Re: False Negative??

Thanks – I took another test first thing this morning and again negative. But still no AF-just a lot of cramping Chat Icon . So now I am two days late (which is not that big of a deal I guess). I would imagine a test would have picked it up by now. I guess I will have to wait it out and see what happens.

Re: False Negative??

The rate of "errors" is greater if you are testing with a digital HPT before your period is do. Each day PAST your period will have a greater chance of being accurate.

AND yes, you can have a big fat negative test on Monday and a BFP at the end of the week. Wait a few days and do again.

Re: False Negative??

I've heard of false negatives. As PP said, the digitals are apparently not as 'sensitive' and may not give a positive right away.

I've also been feeling very crampy and experienced something that had appeared to be implantation bleeding, so I was kinda sure that this was the month. But I had gotten a BFN this morning (the day before AF is due). So I'm trusting it that I'm not pregnant. But if I'm more than 3 days late I'll test again (just in case). I just can't imagine the tests being that off tho.

Re: False Negative??

Good luck ladies! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I know I got my BFP on a digital and the next day a negative on the one w/ the lines....and it really was a BFP. I would go with digital but that's just my preference...no questions with those!

Re: False Negative?? UPDATED

i had one month where i had a 45 day cycle. i was 2 weeks late and AF finally showed. It was my 4th month off bcp but the 3 months prior were totally regular..so there are times you can just have a totally off month.

if you've been under high stress/anxiety, etc. that can totally throw off your cycle.

Re: False Negative?? UPDATED

what are you using to test??

the dollar tree cheap ones are the best and require less hcg hormone to show a positive

Re: False Negative?? UPDATED

When is/was AF expected? Could just be a slightly longer cycle.

Provided you are late, could be stress from anything making her late. Or for some reason, you will skip a period. I used to skip all the time years ago and then it suddenly stopped skipping. Every now and then, I go 60 days though and I'm like Chat Icon .

Re: False Negative?? UPDATED

A lot of women who have never skipped a period or have been late all of a sudden start having whacky cycles with the stress of TTC. I hope that's not the case here though!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: False Negative?? UPDATED

Before we were TTC I was average of 29-30 days...one month i found myself exhausted and such and really thought I was pg...took the test NOTHING! I took multiple tests and AF showed up at CD 35....no rhyme or reason. One month AF decided to show up at CD27! other than those times it was a steady 30 days...very wierd. The body does some wierd things sometimes!
