family-friendly companies on Long Island?
after going through major trauma with my DDs premature birth I was able to get disability for 6months. now the disability is over and i am unemployed because my previous employer was a sh1thead and didn't want to hold my position while i recovered (way longer story but ill spare everyone the details). i love being an accidental SAHM, but our finances can't handle it for much longer and i NEED to find a job ASAP. i have a bachelors in business and 8+ years experience in product development, purchasing, design, web/retail marketing..etc.
regardless of my background i am flexible and i really just want a job at a good family-friendly company. i want something that is somewhat 9-5 but where i wont need to put in too many weekend or after-hours, and flexible for thing like sick kids. also something that has at least a half-way decent maternity policy (anything is better than my last job). i can accept that i prob wont make the salary i was making before and im sure ill start in a lower position (i was a senior manager prior to DD), but i need something stable that offers benefits. i dont care if its administrative or clerical or whatever.. i just need something!! i would love to work in a healthcare setting as well since i plan to go back to school for sono tech or nursing in the fall...
anyway all of that being said, what are some of the most family-friendly companies in long island (any type, i just want to get an idea)?? queens is fine too. i would even go back to the city in the right situation.
is there anyone here who LOVES where they work?
since i dont have the qualifications if you are a teacher you need not reply unless there is some sort of non-teaching, no experience needed position that is currently available.
TIA!!

I work in a college and to me its very family friendly, we get a certain amount of personal, sick and vacation time. Try looking into www.higheredjobs.com, you can search in all the fields you listed.

Working in a college might really work out for you if you do plan on going back to school. My BIL works at a local big name university and he is planning on getting his masters there and it would be for free. If my sister wanted to go back to school she could for free as well as my niece. When I was going to Post for my masters, a couple of the girls in my programs worked reception and file clerk jobs for the university and got their masters for free.

I used to work for Penguin Group (the book publishers); they are in Manhattan (soho area); I loved it there. but the commute became to much for me when we bought a house in PA and then i had DS over a year later. I was doing the commute for over 2 years, but with a baby..its so hard.
lots of people commute in from LI though.

I want to say that I've heard this about Computer Associates, but I don't have any personal experience. It's worth looking into.
I'm no help since I commuted to NYC for over 9 years and worked in an industry that is not really family friendly in terms of hours—which is why I freelance from home these days.

I worked for forest laboratories and they were very family friendly. But a bad boss can always make the difference
