FAMILY NAMES
HI ALL....DO U THINK IT IS IMPORTANT TO NAME YOUR FIRST SON AFTER YOUR HUSBAND IF IT HAS BEEN TRADITION IN THE FAMILY?

Re: FAMILY NAMES
Welcome Jill- IMO I don't think anyone should feel that they HAVE to name their child anything. Only if I loved the name would I do that. But, if it's just for tradition sake then no. How many of the same names does one family need?

Re: FAMILY NAMES
Welcome Jill! It all depends on how you feel. If tradidtion is important to you and your Dh then go for it. If you both don't agree with the tradition then choose a name that you both love.

Re: FAMILY NAMES
my husband is a Jr and he refused to make our son (if that's what we're having) a third. He really doesn't like his middle name-it's quite old fashioned (Frederic) but I like it.

Re: FAMILY NAMES
My DH is a JR and even his parents say it was a mistake because of the confusion with paper work and phone calls. They used to work together and it got out of hand. We decided we would not carry on the first name but i love my DH's middle name so if we have a boy the second time we will use DH's middle name only.

Re: FAMILY NAMES
Welcome Jill! I think it's all a matter of personal choice. Is it important to your husband?

Re: FAMILY NAMES
No.. DH is named after his father and I refused to do it. I have never really been a fan of that. I say that you should do what you and DH want, not what the family wants.

DH has this problem with his dad re. paperwork, credit cards, etc. DH is the III, and said he'd like to carry on the name (he's big into geneology). He says if the name is going to end, it won't be with him. Then there are other days when he's on the fence about it.
