Family room additon
Has anyone done a plain vanilla family room addition and can comment on cost?
In discussing the finished basement I'm realizing that I do have a lot of crap in the basement and am wondering if the space is going to be what I want it to be.
So I'm considering whether a family room addition would be even in the budget. HVAC can just tie into existing, really just putting a 16x20 or so room off the back with a door cut through. Obviously i know it will cost more than a finished basement as it will have a foundation, windows, a roof and siding, but would feel better about spending some of that money.

Also consider it will eat up yard space, and your taxes will increase. Do you have an attic that you can use for storage?

You would calculate the square footage which is 320 sq. ft. then multiply that depending on finishes. For ballpark range figure between 150-200 per square foot. You would need drawings and permits.

We do have an attic. we do need to clean it out as well. More concerned that with the ceiling height, poles, and AC duct that the space won't be really what we want. However, looking at the pricing that was noted above, I'm thinking the family room just isn't in the budget now.
I might want to think about getting a shell of the addition done, then finish the electric, insulation, flooring, drywall and paint myself.

Getting a shell will definitely be cheaper. We are doing a shell for our 2nd floor and doing the rest ourselves.
