Farmingdale - What is being built at Exit 49 just South of the LIE (at the old pumpkin patch area)?
Anyone know what they are putting there? Going to miss seeing the "farm" land there and the pumpkins after all these years.

It kills me - that other building, not even a half mile east is still EMPTY. So many offices up and down 110 corridor are empty.
Why build more, first occupy what's open! Not directed just to Canon, but developers who build new and kill trees, etc instead of going into ones already built.

Every time we pass it, we tell my son that's where he went pumpkin picking for the very first time  Yes, Canon's been trying to get there for many years now. Looks like it's starting to take shape.

but remember.. at least they are staying on long island. they could move off like a lot of other companies have.

Its just so sad to see the farmland go. In the 3 years I've lived in Central Suffolk I've seen so many condos go up on what used to be farmland (on rt 25 heading out to Tanger among other places). It is so sad. I just found out this summer that there used to be a peach farm behind the houses across the street from me where there is now a golf course/condos. I wish I had been here when the peach farm was there!

My Aunt lives right over there and I remember going to her house when I was little and looking at that field and wishing I could just run aroud there. 
She and my cousins have also worked at the farm during the fall season.

The campus in Lake Sucess is not that big and of course, they are a big time and growing company.
I interviewed there a while back and from what i saw, they use every square inch possible.
Yes, the TD Bank building is still unoccupied. DW was suppose to be in the building but some reason, they didn't take occupancy. Maybe too empty for there liking.

We are talking about the same building, that was financed and to be the new TD Building (corner of 110 and south service rd). (DW works for TD) but they moved east of 110 / South Service Rd in the building that was just built like 4 years ago.

Oh, gotcha Babyboy. I just remembered the sign saying Rubie on it, but now that you mention it I do remember a sign that it was financed by TDBank. I didnt realize they were supposed to be an occupant there too!

i remember as a kid most of 110 was farms, even the estee lauder (sp) area was this really nice farm that we used to buy jellies and fruits and veggies from. I remember it all being destroyed and how sad I was. It was the reason my brother moved out to Southold because he missed it. Even at Farmingdale SC they had petting zoo's and they were a agriculture school but of course with a new different type of economy those programs were all deactivated and most of the barns and animal related buildings were destroyed.

They are tearing down the farmland but it is not clean soil. We had asked about taking some for fill and they said they couldn't give it to us. Not positive but I think they said it had arsenic in it (if not arsenic, some other type of contaminent).

Yes, odds are it has arsenic and other chemicals from farming.

I actually work for Canon, been working here for the past 2 years. Currently Canon works out of five buildings that they lease. Four buildings in the Lake Success Quad and one on Community Drive in Manhasset.
In my building, we have leaks occurring, it is quite chilly and parking is very tight.
For lunch or meetings at other buildings, the winter is the worst, coz you have to walk across campus, while trying not to get killed by people driving like maniacs through the quad.
I look forward to the new headquarters even though it will be a longer drive for me.

I look forward to them coming as well. I remember a few months ago that the senate or who ever was fighting to have Canon stay because they were going to move out of state and thousands of people would of lost their jobs. Now by adding this new headquarters they are saving those jobs and adding more. I agree it stinks that farmland had to be lost but in this economy in my own opinion it was a fair trade off.

Davis Peach Farm moved it is now down on Sound Ave. They still have the best Peaches...

The traffic in that area is so disgustingly horrible NOW that when they get there it will take you at least an hour to go 100 feet. Not looking forward to adding thousands more cars to the mix.
