Father's Day BBQ- any ideas?
I'm hosting and want to make it special.
Any ideas other than the standard burgers and dogs (which I might have anyway)
But any ideas for great apps, sides, specialty drinks etc?

You could do steaks and lobster tails. Also, I love kebabs then you can make chicken, veggie and steak kebabs. Yum!
One of my favorite sides is Barefoot Contessa panzanella salad - it's toasted bread, tomatoes, red peppers, red onion, greek dressing and cheese. It's so good!
For Easter I made individual molten lava cakes for dessert with ice cream - it was really easy and everyone loved it.
ETA: my favorite app is fresh mozz, tomato, proscuitto and toasted bread with balsamic dressing - it looks pretty and tasted delicious. Another good side would be grilled corn salad (instead of just grilled corn) and thinly sliced potatoes wrapped in foil and cooked on the grill.

My favorite app for a bbq is avocado, tomato, mango salsa. So yummy for summer time and people always ask for the recipe.
I also love doing antipasto kabobs. Marinate cheese tortellini and bite size mozzarella in balsamic vinaigrette overnight and then skewer with olives, salami, pepperoni, and cherry tomatoes and drizzle with more vinaigrette.
A layered greek dip is also yummy and different from the typical bbq apps.
My favorite side last summer was this spinach and orzo salad.

Father's Day BBQ- any ideas?
I am doing a pulled pork this year and fried chicken. I also will have burgers and dogs. For sides I am having a bruschetta pasta salad and grilled corn on the cob. I'll have some other sides but have not figured them out yet. For apps I usually keep it light some chips and dips. I make planters punch and lemonade. The punch is one of my most requested items. Desserts are usually brownies and cookies. This year I'll have homemade marshmallows for s' mores and homemade fudge. Guests bring the bulk of dessert.

Instead of the boring burgers and dogs, How about some marinated steaks, shish kebobs and grilled veggies. Even grilled fish. Or, if you want to do burgers, we often make them from scratch, add chunks of cheddar, bacon, inside the chopped meat when forming the burgers. They're really good. Serve atop soft toasted onion rolls. Mmm. Make a few easy sides, like a fresh string bean salad, pasta salad, or homemade Mac n cheese.

Last year, I did marinated skirt steaks, ribs, and jerk chicken. Rice and beans, standard salads and corn on the cob. They loved it~

Re: Father's Day BBQ- any ideas?
apple sausages ( most supermarkets carry them , even trader joes) i cut them up into bite size pieces and put them on a skewer with strawberries. they look and taste delicious!
i also make lamb burgers. fairway has excellent chopped lamb meat. i mix up some italian bread crumbs, an egg and scallions and with my thumb i make an indent in the middle and add feta cheese and close it back up and throw them on the grill. they are small sliders and when u bite into them, the feta oozes out.. so freakin good.
im big on grilling veggies. i just purchased a huge basket for the grill. but ive been using a normal sized pan with holes ( an be found in any bbq section- mine is from macys $14.99) i slice eggplant, zucchini, radichio, endives and tomates. salt pepper and oregano and drizzle olive oil.
i also just purchased a Himalayan salt plate from sur la table that i cant wait to try out! def going to use it for seafood and dessert!
for dessert i core a pineapple ( pineapple corer from BBB is AMAZING) throw some slices directly on the grill then when they get the grill marks i take them off and drizzle peach balsamic vinegar, vanilla ice cream and some fresh mint
filet mignon medallions marinated in Tastefully simple's bourbon glaze for 20 min is the best steak ive ever made and its effortless.
