Federal Student Loans

Can someone please help me???

I've never applied for a student loan before and I have no idea where to go from here.

My step-son will be attending community college in the fall. I've completed and submitted his FAFSA and we are not eligible for a Federal Pell Grant but, may be eligible for other aid. The CC will use our EFC to determine his financial aid ability for other federal grants, loans, work study etc.

Step-son wants to now apply for a Federal Stafford Loan and we have no idea on how to go about it.

Should I take his SAR (Student Aid Report) to the community college?
DH just left from there and he said they were no help.

The financial aid office should be able to direct you on how to apply for loans. I know each school has their own processes and lenders that they use, but they should give information to help get you started.

When I was a freshman, the financial aid office recommended lenders that we could apply for Stafford loans through Citibank. Then when I went to grad school, the financial aid office just had us apply for Direct Loans through the government.
