Feedback on Island Therapies and Marion K. Solomon
At our CPSE meeting yesterday, we were approved for OT, a SEIT and parent training. Several people recommended Island Therapies for OT, especially since they have a sensory gym. We also received a recommendation for Marion K. Solomon for the SEIT and parent training.
Does anyone have any experiences with either of these agencies? Any advice you could give? Specific therapists who you would recommend?
Thanks so much!!

We used Marion K. For parent training ( EI though)....LOVED LOVED our's. I still keep in tough with her, she still helps me now.I was sooo sad when we transitioned out of EI to lose her help. Her name is Tricia Gates.

Re: Feedback on Island Therapies and Marion K. Solomon
I have used Marion K Salomon for 2 years now. Both in EI and CPSE.
There is ONE person at MKS who is a completle nightmare to deal with. So incompetent, inefficient and a liar. She works in their office and in charge of their scheduling. This agency will never give you any copies of reports, etc..
But it has nothing to do with the quality of their therapists. They are a large agency which makes it attractive to therapists.
Based on the "admin." part of this agency, I would say I would have never used them. But we have had great therapists. Bad one too but that's in every agency. But since they are big, they have a large pool of therapists.
I have had an amazing experience with All About Kids with Amy (admin.) and the 2nd EI PT we had there. She went above and beyond to find me a replacement PT because the one DS had in their agency $ucked. She was a pleasure to work with. And the PT was amazing.
Our EI OT was from Kidz Therapy and she is amazing also. Not much interaction with the agency though if ever. Everything ran smoothly. I don't think I ever talked to anyone at the agency except when we were initially looking for an OT.

I get all of our services from Up We Grow. They are amazing. My afternoon ABA teacher does SEIT work for them and I cannot say enough good things about her. My parent trainer is incredible.

Just a side note. MOST therapists are signed up with more than 1 agency.

We went to Island T for OT through our insurance. At first we had a guy named Ram/Rem, and he wasn't good, like not at all. Nice guy, but not a good therapist.
After him we had one of the owners, Peggy, she was really good. I've also heard great things about the lady Jeannie, also an owner.

Really soph? I never had a problem with MSK....And I dealt with a CRAZY coordinator who knew crap so I called constantly. The would fax me reports and mail me out copies.
But your experience sounds truly frustrating

She is not a therapist. She does the scheduling for them in the office. We had 9 therapists in EI. The last thing I needed from her was an attitude. I actually refuse to deal with her. I talk to her boss or ANYBODY else. I can't stand her. Well, I can't stand her attitude and incompetence.
All the therapists I have had through MKS told me that MKS does mail out reports. I had to chase them every 3 months with all the therapists. Nightmare!!!!

Re: Feedback on Island Therapies and Marion K. Solomon
Thanks for all of the replies! We're still waiting to hear back from both agencies regarding scheduling. How long does it usually take to get started with services after callling to set things up?

Re: Feedback on Island Therapies and Marion K. Solomon
From someone heavily involved with agencies, I have to say this:
It's not the agency as much as the therapist. What makes an agency good, IMO, is how quickly they will get back to you if you have problems with a therapist.....

Exactly!!!
The agency is NOT the therapist. So while you may or may not have a good experience with an agency, it may have nothing to do with the quality of the therapists.
A GOOD agency will find good therapists that they think would be the best fit for your child. Finding a therapist in a "timely" manner. A good agency should feel like you don't have to "deal" with them if you need reports, find replacements for therapists.
