Feeding DC foods that say "manufactured in a plant that also may share equipment that processes nuts, or shellfish, etc"?

Is it a no no to feed DC foods that do not contain nuts, but may have shared equipment with machines that process nuts?

Another one...shellfish. I bought Jolie Ravioli (all natural locally made ravioli) for kids...and I didn't realize the pkg said "may share equipment with machines that process nuts, shellfish, etc". SO I didn't give them to her, not sure if this is a no no since they don't eat nuts or shellfish just yet....

anyone know or ever think about this?

Unless you have a family history of nut or shellfish allergies, I don't see the issue with giving food that was processed in the same area as nuts and shellfish. If there was a history of food allergies, I'd probably be more cautious.

I believe any family history of allergies warrants caution with certain foods (seasonal allergies included). So if you have any allergies in your family, you may want to exercise caution.

That said, though both DH and I have seasonal allergies, we haven't been so cautious with DSs food. He hasn't had nuts or shellfish yet (and is almos two), though he probably has had traces of nuts in some foods. Some of the current theories about food allergies are that having very small amounts early on help prevent them. I don't know if this is correct or not, but it's very hard to find foods that don't say this on the label, so until I know DS has one of these allergies, he can eat these foods.
