Feeding Fruits & Veggies- variety/order?
When you give your baby fruits & veggies, how often do you rotate, esp. once they're eating whole jars of something?
For example, do you do carrots one day, then sweet potatoes the next day, then peas, etc... then start back at carrots? And the same for fruits? Is there a method to the madness? Does it matter?
I know the whole bit about only introducing 1 new food at a time and do it at least 3 days, but I just mean how much variety do you do?

Re: Feeding Fruits & Veggies- variety/order?
I started out with vegies first and I introduced one every three days. I then introduced fruit and I don't know why but I only introduced it for two days each. We actually started pears today and not sure if he liked them or he was just being cranky...
It was just my way. Dr told me to start vegies first and I just decided to do it for 3 days each. Now I change the vegies, different one each day but we are still introducing the fruit so Im doing those at least 2 days each fruit.

IT depends on what they like. I tend to do the same things a lot. And try to mix it up. We have like 5-6 fruits and 5-6 veggies in roatation. DS loves sweet potatoes and Squash so I use that about every night..but I mix the fruits and veggies at almost every meal.

Re: Feeding Fruits & Veggies- variety/order?
we are starting in two weeks. We were told Veggies then Fruit ... 3 days a part. I plan on rotating as much as possible, but we'll see what he likes/dislikes to determine what he gets.
On another note though, has anyone read about nitrates in root & leafy veggies and not to feed them until 8 months +? I was just reading about this and now I am torn. I planned on starting with carrots, sweet potato, spinach, etc .. but now I am not sure Anyone do research?

Re: Feeding Fruits & Veggies- variety/order?
I try to give DD something different everyday. She has a fruit for breakfast (apples, pears, bananas, apples & plums, and other mixtures) and for lunch she has a veggie (rotated between carrots, sweet potatoes, squash, peas, and green beans). No one told me to rotate everyday, but it just makes sense to me, as I wouldn't want the same exact thing everyday!

I'm not 100% sure of why, but I've read that you shouldn't make your OWN carrots and spinach for a while, but the jarred ones are okay (as you said, something about the nitrates).

We started with applesauce. I did fruits first, I don't believe that if you do fruits first that DC won't like veggies, DS likes the veggies better.

I do not make my own food, but I know that DS has been getting sweet potatos and carrots since about 4.5 months. Gerber has them in Stage 1. But I haven't seenanything with spinich in it yet.
ETA: Now that eats "meals" I tend to mix it up. Cereal for breakfast, a fruit for lunch and a veggie with cereal for dinner. Or vice versa. I feel like I wouldn't want to eat the same thing twice a day

the books I read said something to the effect of it burning off during cooking?
I know your not suppossed to ( I make my own food) use the water from certain foods like carrots while steaming them, because the nitrates "could" be in there.

I use Gerber stage 1 right now and once we go through 2 packs (4 containers) then I move onto a new thing. We did fruit first then veggies.
