Feeding question

DS is 13 days old and has been taking about 3 ounces of formula with each feeding. He eats the whole thing and appears to be satisfied but then wants to eat again in about an hour! If I feed him again he will take between 2 1/2-3 ounces. He falls asleep when I feed him and I have to change his diaper or take his feet out of his feetsy-PJ's to wake him. Then he will finish the bottle.

Is it normula for him to want to eat this much? Our ped told us to feed him when he is hungry and that there is no set time he should eat but I feel like all I do is feed him! He was on a 2-2 1/2 hour schedule but he has been so inconsistent the last 2 days.

Re: Feeding question

i would up the 3ozs to 4 ozs. See if that holds him over longer. My ds was eating 4ozs at that age. So its normal. Chat Icon

ITA.

My whole philosophy is if they're hungry... let them eat! Chat Icon

I also don't think there is a "normal" with newborns and eating. Everyone's baby is different. Some eat 3-4 ounces and some eat only 2. Chat Icon

My guy is 9 days old and wants more than the 4 oz he is already taking! Chat Icon He went from taking 3-4 oz every 4-5 hrs and now he is taking the 4 every 3 hrsChat Icon

The ped says "he is the boss" if he want to eat feed him, I just feel like it is so much and then he gets the hiccups after 4 oz.Chat Icon

My ped says the same thing. And, DS gets the hiccups all the time after his bottle too. I've tried to give him 4 ounces and he usually will only take the 4 ounces at his last bottle before I go to bed (around 11). Then he sleeps for 3 full hours Chat Icon . But, for the rest of the night and during the day he will only take 3 and falls back asleep. Maybe today I will try just to give him 3 1/2 ounces and see if he takes it. It kills me to throw out formula while we are playing the trial and errors game with him.

Re: Feeding question

DS is 15 days today and I am having the same problem. Sometimes at the end he looks like he is still hungry after 3 oz so I give him a little more. Most of the time when I have done that he spits it up. He has been eating every two hours except at night when it is every three hours!
