Feel like I wanna cry
Just got the rent increase letter in the mail today
We were paying 945, which included a 20 per month cat fee...so rent was 925 + 20 for tigger
Well, the one I got today said rent will be 975 PLUS 25 for tigger if we renew our lease
I just wanna cry...at this rate we will NEVER EVER EVER be able to save anything...
OOoh, and they want 30 dyas notice if u plan to leave...umm..that would be august 30th! She said they would extend it for us, but I am just so sick over this.

Re: Feel like I wanna cry
I just want to tell you that where we live, we have to give 60 days notice or we get nothing back
ETA: I just wanted to add more and say that if you take lunch to work once a week or one more time than you do, you could make that rent increase up.

Re: Feel like I wanna cry
Thanks for the tips. Our rent has increased over 110.00 in the past 2 years alone...I already take my lunch to work, and unless DH and I get second jobs, there is really no other alternative. THe jobs out here in RI do not pay close to what is made elsewhere. It just sucks, and we hate the thought of packing up and moving...I just gotta see what I can find out there for now I guess...

Maybe start selling things on bay from home to make up the difference?? I am sure you can find some old junk around the house you want to get rid of anyway

Re: Feel like I wanna cry
Holly, Do you live in an apartment community or just a private residence? I used to work in a complex (it was in NC though, so the market was a bit saturated anyway), but you could try discussing it with the management. Every year we would send out renewal notices- and some people would just re-sign at their new rate. But some people would come in and complain, or just say they didn't think they could afford it, and seriously, I saw the district manager reduce a persons increase from $100/mo to like $10/mo!!! It actually made me feel so bad for the people who just assumed that it was set in stone because I felt like they were getting screwed!
Again, maybe where you are the market is tighter and they wouldn't care if you left, but in general, they save money by keeping the same residents. And it can't hurt to ask!
