Feeling a little nervous - Updated
I'm 30 weeks today. While I've felt the baby over the past few weeks, I really haven't felt her as much as I thought I would. Two weeks ago, we went for a 3D sono and the tech told me that my placenta was anterior which is why I probably didn't feel the baby too much.
I had my 30 week check up today and mentioned to my OB that I don't really feel the baby that often and sometimes I can go a whole day or even two without feeling her. So, she sent me for a biophysical profile this morning.
The tech where I went did her thing, and then said she was going to get the Dr. to come in and talk to me. Of course I get all nervous thinking something is seriously wrong with my baby. He comes in and checks out the baby himself and tells me that the baby meets the criteria they are looking for, but is on the inactive side. I asked if it's something I should be concerned with and he kind of gave me a round about answer, so now I'm just really freaked out. He did say he was going to suggest to my OB that they do a Non-Stress Test earlier than they said they were going to (due to my GD, they were going to have me come every week at the end of my pregnancy for non-stress tests).
I was able to see the baby moving, but for the most part she is pretty still.
Has anyone experienced this type of thing before? I'm really nervous something is wrong with the baby.
UPDATE: My OB just called and while the baby scored an 8 out of 8 on the biophysical, she's now sending me for a non-stress test this afternoon. The concern the other Dr. had was that it took a full 30 minutes for the baby to do what they want to baby to do during a biophysical, so to be on the safe side, I'm going for the NST this afternoon and then a follow up one on Friday.
UPDATE #2 - So I went for the NST, baby was doing just what she was supposed to be doing (except I couldn't feel a thing). They had me push a button each time I felt the baby move which was really only twice. I was instructed to monitor the baby's kicks, but was because that's the whole point.. I don't feel the baby! The nurse said that even though I have anterior placenta I should still be feeling the baby. So, I'm still confused because if she was doing everything she should be doing, then there's no reason for concern, but yet it's important that I physcially feel the baby...I'm suppsoed to call my Dr. if I don't feel 10 kicks within an hour. That definately never happens, so I'm going to be basically calling her every day. What do they do then?

Re: Feeling a little nervous
honestly I don't feel I feel my baby as much as others. In the last two weeks, activity has def. increased, but my doctors don't seem concerned. I do feel baby dodge probably every 2 hours now. I still haven't seen any movement externally (like others have).

Re: Feeling a little nervous
IMO, they can't tell how active a baby is just from one sono - they might have just caught her sleeping! plus if your placenta is anterior, and she moves more at night (when you are sleeping) then you won't feel her a lot at all.
i would go for the NST but i would not worry just yet (okay, i wouldn't worry TOO much )

Re: Feeling a little nervous
i have an anterior placenta too... and I am not constantly feeling the baby either. Although, there are times when the baby is kicking/moving out of control... mainly when I am lying around-- which, let's be honest, is a lot!!
If everything looks good-- I would try not to worry too much. Go for the tests and just look at it as part of your routine medical visits.
I know it's so hard, since for me-- when I do feel the baby it makes me feel better, and I am a lot more relaxed in regards to the health of the baby later in pregnancy, than I was in the beginning.
Also, when you catch a baby on a sono is just an indication of how they are at THAT TIME. I think that's bullshite that the doc said that-- I know you have GD, but try to have a little sweet stuff to see if that gets the baby moving.

Re: Feeling a little nervous
I think at 32 weeks I was very concerned that DD was not moving around on that day or even the day before much, even after I tried the normal triggers that got her moving usually (OJ, chocolate, laying down, etc)...so I called my OB, they said to come in to just be checked out. They gave me a non-stress test and all was well with DD, thankfully. I told the OB I felt guilty wasting her time, but she said she was happy I called if I was concerned, better to be safe than sorry! DD was never super active, more of a leaner than a kicker, but those days I just didn't feel her much at all.
I'm sure baby's just a little comfy in there and relaxing more than normal, but I would follow-up with them if you want to calm your fears

Re: Feeling a little nervous
I went through this exact same thing around the 30-32 week mark with DS.
We did the tests your doctor mentioned and he was fine- born healthy as can be at 38.5 weeks!
I think the reason was that he was turned to one side, would NOT move from this position, in fact it was a big reason that I needed a c-section after 30 hours of labor!
Hang in there- I know it can be stressful- especially towards the end. When in doubt- call the doctor if it helps to put your mind at ease.

Re: Feeling a little nervous
Thanks everyone.
It's just we went through so much to get pregnant, and so much throughout my pregnancy, that I feel like everytime I relax, it's something else!
I guess it was just the way the Dr. said that she just meets the criteria that bothered me. That and I can literally go more than a day without feeling any movement at all.
Also, my baby never responds to the sweet stuff to get her moving! I always drink OJ before a sono, but she's always what I call "lazy"

Re: Feeling a little nervous
I've had so many sonos I lost count. Sometime the babies are more active, sometimes they are not. I went for three while I was at the hospital and one of the times baby B wasn't moving at all. Poking and pushing we finally got her to give a kick, but my point is at the other sonos she was moving around just fine, so its hard to tell just from one sono.

Re: Feeling a little nervous
sounds like all is okay, especially since you've always had a "lazy" baby... but better to be on the safe side and do the additional test.
please keep us posted

I do not feel 10 kicks an hour... but then there are some periods of time when I see my belly shimmy and shake-- so, it's pretty clear the baby is moving all over the place. I am not how I would monitor kick counts either.
Who instructed you-- the person who did the test, or your OB?? I would definitely want to discuss your "instructions" further since it sounds like they gave you the text book response.

I thought it was 10 every two hours, and that it was any movement, not just kicks.

My OB told me to do this TWICE per day, in the morning before I get up and at night when I go to bed.
The nurse who did the NST told me to do it once per day.
I guess when I call my OB tomorrow after not feeling 10 kicks within an hour, I'll ask her how useful that information is to them since the issue is that I don't feel the baby much as it is, but she IS doing everything she's supposed to be doing according the biophysical and NST.

Nope, my written instructions were 10 per hour. I just automatcially say kicks.. fetal movement, which I don't feel either.
