Feeling Bummed :(

Hi all, I'm feeling abit bummed today. Just got laid off at my current job due to more corporate restructuring.

I had an idea it was happening but didn't realize it was going to be so fast! They laid two others, along with me, around 4pm today. Even went so far as to escorting us to our desk to collect our stuff and not allowing us to do much on the computer.

Bright side is, at least I got severance and can collect unemployment while I'm job hunting!

For those who are laid off before how do you guys motivate yourself to jobhunt after such news?

And does anyone know of any companies looking for a Web Producer or Web Specialist?

I'm a very experienced web professional at your service! :D

Re: Feeling Bummed :(

Im sorry this happened to you.

This happened to me in April of 2001. Got called to HR at 10am...was told to go back to my desk and pack my things...I was in a car going home by 11:30....it really sucked (2500 people were let go on the same day) but I got severance, part of my bonus and collected unemplyment in the process. I decided to take a few weeks off...to relax and then I went to school for medical billing. I didnt get another job fo 6 months due to school. The new career didnt work out but I think I really needed the time off for my own sanity!

Good Luck in your job search!!

There are alot of IT recruiters on this board....Maybe one of them can help you!!

Re: Feeling Bummed :(

1st off, Im very sorry to hear that you were laid off. It happens to the best of us. I was laid off from my last two jobs, so I know how it is.

2nd- Your right, at least your getting some sort of income while you are on your job search.

From what I hear, the job industry is pumping, so right now, its an employees market. There are so many jobs out there. I would use this time to relax (take a few days off for yourself) Start searching for a job when you feel 100% refreshed & relaxed. Work on your resume & interview skills. Things will work out for you... just have faith & be patient!

- I wish you the best Chat Icon

I took some time off before I started looking for a job. you need some time to get the hurt out of your system so that you can focus on job hunting.

I am so sorry - I know exactly how you feel! Chat Icon

Re: Feeling Bummed :(

Definitely take some time for yourself like sweetpea said. Then make yourself a daily schedule where half the day is job searching, networking, etc. - the other half - relax, work in your house/apt., etc.

Don't worry things will be ok.

I'm so sorry this happened to you.

I went thru this in March. I got to work and was called into my boss' office at 10am. I was back at my desk cleaning up within 30 minutes and my computer got locked so I couldn't even tell my work friends. Then I got escorted out of the office. I cried the whole way from the office to penn station, the whole train ride home and to DH's work where he took me for lunch and I cried some more.

I know it's hard, but you have to pick yourself up and brush yourself off, start looking (I started that very afternoon) and know deep down that you are on to bigger and better.

I was very fortunate to receive a new offer at the end of that very same week, though I was settling. Now, 2.5 months after leaving that job, I'm about to start a new job - my first choice job - and I'm so happy about it.

I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. You'll land on your feet at someplace great. Chat Icon
