My sister got her teaching job in middle country school district 2 weeks before school started -- and I have a lot of friends who have had the same thing happen -- for some of them it was even closer to the school year.
I got hired for my job a few years ago on July 26th....
Principals do very often wait until the last minute -- so it is not over yet.
ALso are you looking just for aperminant position or are you willing to take a leave? My friend got a call for a leave a week before school last year and she has her own class in the school now becuase they liked her so much!

Have you tried catholic schools? I know they pay a lot less, but its a foot in the door and usually at this time they have openings as people they hred in the beginning of summer landed jobs in public schools. May be worth a try putting in an application and resume!

I am in the same boat... Catholic schools are not much better (I was laid off from one after five years due to low enrollment)! I am trying stuff outside of the classroom now... had a few interviews but no luck yet.

We had the same conversation last summer....it BLOWS! But I cannot imagine myself doing anything else...I really love teaching...just wish I could get a job
