Feeling guilty (pet related)

This will probably get moved to the pet board but here goes

DH, DD and I are going to NY in August and I just made a reservation to board my dog while we are away...I have a sick feeling about it, I feel so guilty when I leave her. She is part of our family and so spoiled.

I guess the good thing is that the place she is going to:

1) she has been there before
2) they get 4 hours of outside play time with other dogs each day
3) they have a pool that the dogs can go in

I know she likes it there, I think it is harder for me to leave her than it is for her to be there....I told Dh he will have to drop her off because I cannot deal with that, I will probably start Chat Icon

i hear ya!! its so hard leaving them! our dog has never been to a boarder, becasue ILs or my parents were always able to watch him, but we're going away next week with my parents, and ILs are away also... so we have to board him for the first time. i'm so nervous!!
but, likeyour place,- the place we're taking him also seems great. the only time they are "Caged" is when they eat and at night. the rest of the time, they are free to roam around, there is a kiddie pool for them, the lady said she gives them boiled chicken as a treat with their food, theres a couch that all the dogs hang out on, and web cams so we can log on and see what hes up to Chat Icon he loves other dogs, so i think he'll be fine... its just so hard to know what to expect!

I totally know how you feel. The place you described though sounds fastastic--mind if I ask where it is located?

This is why my sister started a pet sitting business. She goes to the owners house serveral times a day and plays with the pets, walks them, feeds them and even e-mails updates on how they are doing. SHe also brings in their mail and waters their plants! This type of service is very popular here in So Cal. Here are some hugs for youChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Feeling guilty (pet related)

I feel better boarding them. I dont want to worry that someone I asked to watch them opened the door the wrong way and one of them got out, or they didnt get home in time to walk or feed them, etc. Also, if they get sick the boarding place will call the vet, as opposed to someone deciding to wait until I get home.

This way they go to "camp" I will only do this once a year so there are times when my dh and I go away then he wants to go to fl to visit family that I stay home for that reason. This is one thing we always agreed on.

I would feel guilty as well, but at least you know that she will be well taken care of...its hard but don't worry she'll be so happy when she sees you guys again! Dogs don't have a sense of time which is great!Chat Icon
