Female cat needs a friend, do we get a male or female?
We are getting my kids a kitten, but we have a 10 year old, very laid back female cat, do you think she'd do better with a female or male kitten. TIA

I have heard that they do better with a cat of the opposite sex- they feel less threatened by them. I guess it's a territorial thing.

When we were looking for a kitten mate for my old cat (he was 14 at the time), we just tried to get a smaller kitten...so that he wouldn't feel threatened. We happened to fall in love with a female kitten and it worked out really well - they love each other!
good luck!

Re: Female cat needs a friend, do we get a male or female?
We are currently looking for a home for a male cat that we rescued off the street. Only thing is that the vet thinks he is about 2 years old. However, he is small for his age.
I posted his story about a month ago. He only has three legs, he is missing a bag leg. Poor thing was skinny and looked like he was on the street for a while. He gets around just fine though. He is sweet but high energy. He has already been fixed and tested.
I am going to work with organizations to place him but if you are interested let me know.
