Fence with neighbors...

has anyone ever went half with their neighbors on a fence..if so whose property did it go on or was it down the middle of the two properties on the survey line?

Re: Fence with neighbors...

Our next door neighbor just had a fence installed today. As he is having it installed all the way around his property, we are paying half for the side that between our properties. It is actually right on the property line, right where the old fence was (which was mine). He went for the stockade so the nice side faces our yard.

I wish we had done a fence first as we would have gotten the white vinyl - now we have stockade on one side, white vinyl on the other (from the other neighbor) and chain link across the back. Chat Icon Nothing matches.

Re: Fence with neighbors...

ok well that was our plan and my husband was there when they intalled it and it was two feet over on the neighbors property. he told that that was ok. my dh and i just had a blowout because i told the fence company i wanted a receipt with both our names on it stating that we both paid for it, just in case something happened down the line. in general i believe it should of been put on the property line though right?

Re: Fence with neighbors...

We are putting brand new fence in.
our neighbor on one side offered to pay for it.
We want to ask our other neighbor if she wants to remove her stockage and share our PVC fence we are putting up, and we will offer her a free gate as well.

We got a really good price under 6k for a 60X100 property for PVC fencing

I think it depends on the town. I know my mom's fence was actually about six inches inside her property line but it was installed years ago.

I believe as long as it's on your property (which would include the line) then it's okay. Of course, if you neighbor doesn't like your choice in fencing and wants to put up his own fence next to it, he might not like that it's on the line because then his would have to be inside the line (making his usable space a little smaller).

As long as you discuss it with the neighbor first I don't see a problem. If he has a problem, I'd hope he'd speak up.

Re: Fence with neighbors...

my parent house and all the surrounding neighbors have the white PVC fencing. before we moved in, several neighbors decided to all get the fensing put up.. i would say it was about 6 houses (3 and 3 backyards face each other

so

if that makes sense they all got it done at one time and i think it saved them a lot of money plus at least no everyone has a matching fence on all sides. so im sure the fencing must have been put up in the middle of the property lines because no one has a doubled up fence.

I ACTUALLY HAVE A PICTURE THAT SHOWS 3 OF THE HOUSES AND HOW LOOKS..

we explained to him that it is two feet more on his side and he said he doesn't care. he's in the army and going to iraq next month for a year so he wanted to get everything done first. i was just wondering in the long run if he ever decided to sell what would happen with the new neighbors. i told him tonight that i wanted to have the bill showing both our names, he was cool with it. thanks everyone for your input!

our lot is really huge, we have like 100x160 lot. we used the neighbors friend and are supposedly getting a good deal. good luck, i hope the other neighbor agrees.

Re: Fence with neighbors...

when our neighbors were putting up new PVC, we offered them money for the side that borders our driveway, he wouldn't accept it. and then when we were getting estimates to do the other side of our house, I asked my neighbors on the other side if they'd be ok w/ a new fence (they have a dog, so I wanted them to know)......they told me to let them know how much it would be (assuming they planned on offering to contribute) but I outright told them we'd be fine with paying the whole thing (I guess I was thinking we'd "pay it forward" so to speak, since my neighbor on the other side didn't take $$ from us. some people split the cost, some don't.

We went half with our neighbor and had it put where the old fence was.
