Fences: Is PVC a lot more than Chainlink?
I love the PVC fence, the look and durability that comes with it. I know it comes with a price $$$.
We have a small park behind our house that has chainlink already and DH dosent want to put PVC since he has been hearing lately how the kids are trying to take them down and destrying them and wants to do a privacy chainlink over what is there.
We also have a dog and need it. He feels it will be less expensive as well.

I feel like it would be easier to do damage to a chain link than to a PVC. How are they trying to take it down?
I am not sure of fencing costs but the look of a PVC over chain link would be worth a good amount more to me....

I like the privacy chain link fences, actually, and I might prefer it if I had a park behind my house. I feel like they give you privacy, but you can still see some movement behind the fence, through the very small openings. If someone was hanging around in the park, you would be able to notice it better.

I actually prefer chainlink as well. They are much more durable in inclement weather especially. Plus, with a dog, there is nothing for them to naw with a chainlink. PVC's do come down with high winds just like the wood ones. My old neighbors had a PVC and it came down in December when it was bitter cold and winds were so strong!

Kids have been basically running into PVC fences and destroying sections of people's fences. I feel it is more on corner properties since they are easier to get to. I love the look of PVC and can't wait to put one up--right now we have chain link and we just plan to put PVC in front of it (or the inside of our yard)

We have a black chain link around the entire perimeter of our property that is fairly new. I prefer it so much better than a PVC. It just keeps the beauty of the scenery with all the trees; and especially if you have a park in the back, I wouldnt block it w/ a white solid fence.

Re: Fences: Is PVC a lot more than Chainlink?
I have both. When I moved into my house, we had a horse farm directly behind us. For that reason we put up privacy chain link throughout the back yard and decorative pvc in the front of the house. It was very expensive but has held up well. If I had to rate them, although i aesthetically prefer the pvc, I think the chain link has held up better.

this may sound really stupid - but if you just need it for the dog, could you put up a white picket fence? then it's pretty and you can still enjoy the park and watch out for the houligans.
