Fencing question for those on water-I.e. pond, lake, river, bay, etc.

The house we are moving to next month is on Miller's Pond in Smithtown. There is a shallow wooded area at the back of the property that is part of the Greenbelt trail and then Miller's Pond so we can just walk through the woods directly to the water.

How do we fence this to protect our children but not lose the view? Dh thinks a 4 foot chain link fence running through part of the wooded area ( after we find out our property line). I was thinking maybe something like mesh pool fencing so the kids can't get their feet into it to climb over.

Any ideas?

The chain link is going to be your cheapest option. The mesh fencing is expensive and if they ever figured out how to pull the out the polls by watching you it doesn't help.

Another option is the aluminum fences. Those are pricey but you wouldn't be able to climb it.

What about 4 foot high aluminum picket fence. You can also put a gate with a lock.

Iron or aluminum estate fencing is your best bet, b/c it is pool code b/c it has no footholes. Chain link is less attractive and also not pool code b/c children can easily put their feet into the holes and get over.

I got 4 foot aluminum fence with a gate from port jeff fence. 4 years ago they were the cheapest in my area and did it in 3 days from when I called!

Not sure of the cost, but I love wrought iron fences and you'll still get the view.
