Fertilizing the Lawn
Does anyone know anything about taking care of the lawn? The lawn at my house needs work...There are a lot of spots that are brown....and the lawn is missing that glossy green that it should have. My father in law told me I need to buy Winter Fertilizer, and I am going to pick that up after work.....and do it today....Are there any tips you can give me to get a healthy lawn? Thanks, Scott

Re: Fertilizing the Lawn
Fertilize and seed a couple times a year, make sure it gets enough water (water your lawn in the early morning - before the sun rises, if you can, just not when the sun is highest in the sky) Dont cut your lawn too low...it will burn. Make sure you rake all the leaves up off the lawn, otherwise they will rot the lawn
be very libral with the seed...the birds will come and feast and if you dont seed enough...you wont grow any grass!!

Re: Fertilizing the Lawn
I only have one tree in my yard but I still end up raking all fall!! Remember your neighbors have trees and their leaves fall into your yard....no matter how hard you try and keep them out!!

Re: Fertilizing the Lawn
Before you put down the seed, airate the ground....chop it up a bit with a hoe or something similar and add some fertilizer or top soil. Put top soil or peat moss over lightly when you plant the seeds, and be sure to water liberally now to get it growing before the first frost.

I was just going to say this. This is the time of you that you want to airate your lwan before you put any seed or fertilizer down.

Re: Fertilizing the Lawn
Scott - I reviewed this web site when I was thinking about maintaining my own lawn:
http://www.allaboutlawns.com/
They seem to have a lot of info. I have to admit though, in the end, I decided to sod it and have a landscaper take care of it.

Re: Fertilizing the Lawn
Well I didnt see your post to airate. I just put down the fertilizer with a spreader and then watered the lawn. Scott
