Fetal echocardiogram - Thanks for your responses New Question

Anyone else have to have this done? I have to have this done b/c supposedly they didn't get all the measurements of the blood vessels and heart at my 1st or 2nd Level 2 but I am really nervous. Thanks!

ETA: Thanks for your responses. How many of u had it done at Madonna in Mineola? I heard it was a doctor that performs the echo and I was wondering if I get my results right there. THANKS!

Re: Fetal echocardiogram

Chat Icon don't be nervous....

I didn't have one done, but the reason you have to is likely just becuase your bean is moving around too much! It's not a cause for alarm (such as them measuring something and not liking what they saw)....

Yes, I did. Our nuchal measurement at the 12 week ultrascreen was borderline and it was recommended that I have it done.

Basically, I tried not to get upset the weeks leading up to the test. That day, Yes I was nervous.

they scanned me for about 30 min which also made me nervous, and the tech was pretty silent.

The results came back fine.

Yes I had one, the second blood test we got back for my DD came back questionable for precursor for Down Syndrome, so they wanted to do a fetal echo to check for abnormalities (in leiu of an amnio). We must have been there for over 2 hours (DD wouldn't cooperate!!) It was like an extra long sono and I actually liked it b/c I got to see my baby for quite a while that day! Needless to say everything was fine and my DD is perfect. Good luck and try not to be nervous about the echo, it really was fine.

Re: Fetal echocardiogram

I had one done every 1-2 weeks starting at 30 weeks. Its actually pretty cool to see the baby's heart and how it is working. Its like a typical sono but the tech focuses on the heart.

Re: Fetal echocardiogram

Had one at 19 weeks b/c I have a heart condition and they just wanted to check the baby out to make sure all was OK with her. It was just like a Level II as someone said, but much more detailed and focused on the heart. It will be really nice for you to see your baby in such detail, esp. if you get a great sono tech like we had...he explained EVERYTHING and showed us everything. And we went a few days before our Level II, so he was able to tell us it was a Chat Icon

Don't be nervous, it's just a regular sonogram you'll see stuff in such depth it will amaze you!

Re: Fetal echocardiogram

I had this done a few months ago and its really no big deal. They checked DD's heart since I have a heart condition myself. They checked each valve, measured things and it was just like a regular sonogram, just focused on the heart. It was no big deal, yes, it was nervewrecking.. but they tell you right at the end the results and hopefully everything should be fine! Goodluck!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I had this done as well. It's basically an ultrasound of the heart, very similar to a Level II they just concentrate on the baby's heart and will give you the results during the exam.

Good luck Chat Icon

I didn't have it done in Mineola but a doctor did do my sono and she told me the progress and what she saw the whole time. She was great and really made me feel good about everything. So even though they weren't the "completed resuts", I left knowing what the results were.

I was told the cardiologist at Madonna is only there once a week for three hours. I was not able to see them at that time.

I was referred to Good Sam Pediatric Specialty which had a larger window for appointments.

Re: Fetal echocardiogram - Thanks for your responses New Question

I had mine done at Madonna in Mineola...They have a cardiac sono lady on staff and she was GREAT. She completly eased our fears and talked to us about what was being done through out the whole thing. I felt sooo much better when I left.

Good luck!
