Fetal hiccups?
Anyone else experiencing this? It started about 2 weeks ago at 30w. It happens once a day- maybe twice- and lasts 5 to 10 minutes.
When I Googled it I was mostly reassured it's normal and even a good sign but then I found a few sources that mentioned a possible link between hiccups and cord issues...

Re: Fetal hiccups?
Absolutely NORMAL! I actually can't stand them, my LO gets them about 2-3 times a day (same time too).
My DS got them as well. My Dr told me last week that it can be seen on a sonogram and it is the exact refulx that adults have when they hiccup. I have read that it is the baby preparing it's diaphragm for breathing outside the womb, strengthening the muscles.

Re: Fetal hiccups?
I'm sure I've asked this before but what do the hiccups feel like?

Re: Fetal hiccups?
OB said it is normal, because the baby is practicing swallowing in utero. I feel them once in awhile. I never heard the cord thing.

Re: Fetal hiccups?
I felt them SO often with DS, and fairly early too, around 16 weeks. He had no issues whatsoever except for making me nuts when I was trying to sleep at night
This time around, DD has them, but it's not nearly as frequent.

Re: Fetal hiccups?
Yeah I think I Google too much sometimes... If you look hard enough you can always find some horrible thing to worry about, lol.
-----------------
Hiccups feel like little spasms or pops every couple of seconds in a very defined/single spot. I'm getting it around my bikini like, so I know the bugger is head down.
I actually saw a show recently on Discovery Health about ladies that were surprised with twins either super late- like at a growth sono- or at the actual birth. One lady said she was feeling hiccups at the same time on two sides and it was her tip-off, lol.

Re: Fetal hiccups?
it's very normal - the OB actually told us that it's VERY good....that it's the baby practicing breathing - and they ingest fluid and hiccup.
emma STILL hiccups a lot. she used to hiccup any time i ate...and now - when she eats - she hiccups!

Re: Fetal hiccups?
With my first pregnancy my DS had them CONSTANTLY. I had a perfectly normal pregnancy and delivery and he is now a smart healthy 2 year old! That said, he continued to have the hiccups constantly as a baby and for the first year of his life
This pregnancy, she started later but, now she has them all the time too. I agree with the pp that said they are SO annoying when I am trying to sleep. I actually don't like the feel of them...Never heard of this cord thing and I am not looking into it b/c I don't need something else to worry about

Mine too! He also used to get really mad when he'd get them and punch & kick. This one, I'm almost 28weeks & haven't felt any. Never heard anything about a cord issue, my OB said it means they're practicing breathing.
