fever?
Ryan felt a little warm to me..so I took his temp, rectally.... 99.8 was the reading...
His cheeks are a little red, and he is munching on EVERYTHING.... is this a teething thing??? Is it even considered a fever...?? SHould I call the ped. or just give him so tylenol????
TIA

Re: fever?
that is not a fever, anything over 100.4 is a fever, even then, no tylenol is necessary unless he is uncomfortable.

99.8 is a normal temp for this time of the night, it is usually elevated around bedtime and gradually increaes until about 2am, then it gies down.

Re: fever?
Ahhhh...
Well I did give him a little tylenol... cause he's teeth were really bothering him....
Either way...a half an hour later he was chomping, cranky, and it was back down to 97.8...
In general though.... does teething cause a slight fever?
I know at work...alot of moms of babies say there child is warm..because of there teeth... ???

Re: fever?
Some kids run fevers when they teeth because they get a minor infection under the gum because of the excessive saliva and the gum being open when the tooth pops through, but a fever does no just come on because of teething, remember a fever is an indication of infection somewher in the body.

Yup, Ryan is perfect! Take his temp through out the day when he is well so you ahve a comparison when he is ill. But not until it is over 100.4 is it considered a fever.

Re: fever?
Both Maddie & Joe would run slight fevers while teething - always below 100, but they would feel warm.
I would chalk this up to teething if he has no other symptoms...you know because I once dated a pre-med guy so I"m almost a doctor.
