Fever during delivery and the NICU
I am curious - if you had a fever while delivering, did your baby have to spend time in the NICU or get antibiotics?
I've seen that before and I'm just curious, because I spiked a fever right before I was going to push, plus DD's heart rate was high, and they never mentioned the NICU at all. She didn't even have antibiotics.

Re: Fever during delivery and the NICU
Yes, I had a relatively high fever and both DS and I were given 48 hrs of antibiotics and he was in the NICU (bit we left the hospital together, on time). We were told its hospital procedure that a fever over a certain mark for the mama means NICU for the baby.

I had a fever during labor. They did put my boys in the NICU just to monitor them. they were fine.

We delivered at the same hospital... I wonder if my fever just wasn't high enough? I think it was 100 or 101, I can't remember.

Re: Fever during delivery and the NICU
In my hospital, once you hit 100.4 fever during labor, the baby automatically is sent to the NICU and given antiobiotics as a preventitive measure.
I had exactly 100.4 at the height of my 21 hour labor and DS spent two days in the NICU. He was fine and the fever was most likely due to the arduous labor but it still makes me sad that he had to spend time there because of it.

Yes, I had a fever during delivery and DS was in the NICU for 5 days. I was extremely upset by the whole situation. I felt I didnt get that bonding experience in the room, difficult to BF with other dads right next to you and a small screen in between.

Re: Fever during delivery and the NICU
I had a low grade fever when in labor with DS1 (ended up with a c-section) and they wouldn't let me see him until my fever was gone. I had him at 6:50 PM and had to beg to be allowed to see him at 11:45 PM. But he wasn't in the NICU.

Re: Fever during delivery and the NICU
I had a very low fever RIGHT before I started pushing and DD was taken to the NICU
DD was born at 3:23PM and I didn't see her again until 11PM.

I've always heard that was the case but no first-hand experience.

I spiked a fever and DS heart rate dropped a bit while I was pushing. DS was put in the NICU and was in for 4 days.

Same thing happened to me for DS2, except he had to stay an extra day in the NICU. So I went home first and he came home a day later.

Same here... I think it's so weird that DD didn't go to the NICU. I mean, I am totally grateful, but it seems like it should have happened.

Re: Fever during delivery and the NICU
I spiked a fever during the majority of my labor. DS also had a fever when he was born. He was placed in NICU. We were both on antibiotics for 2 days. I got Cdiff from this!
