FH had a biiig eye-opener yesterday

For the first time, I think my FH really understood the gravity of the economy right now.

He wento Home Depot to pick up a tool when a guy who looked familiar approached him. Turns out he was a laborer who recognized FH from his jobsites in the Hamptons. FH said the guy was the epitome of "down on his luck." He asked FH if he was a contractor (he's not) and had any work. He was living in his car since getting laid off last month. He asked FH if he could bum a couple bucks for gas. FH felt so bad--he followed the guy to the gas station and put $20 in his tank and gave him $20 for food.

When FH came home and told me the story I could tell he had a very heavy heart. I think meeting someone in that situation shocked him, especially someone he "knows" from jobsites. He still seems a little upset by it. Chat Icon Chat Icon

So sad. That was really nice of him to help out though. Really makes you stop and think just how lucky some of us are.

That was nice of him to do that. I'm sure it really hit close to home for him. "There but for the grace.."

That is really sad. I was annoyed at my husband for having to travel for work this week and now I feel incredibly stupid for complaining....he is very lucky to have a job right now, others are not so lucky. How sad for that man and kudos to your DH for having a good heart. Chat Icon

That's really sad, and very sweet of your DH to help him. Unfortunately, I think a lot of people really just don't get what kind of trouble we're in, and unless they know someone like this man, they don't put much thought into it.

to your DH for being so kind.
My DH is a builder in the Hamptons & guys walk on to his jobs everyday begging for work. They tell their whole story, some have even cried. Its really taking a toll on my DH, there isn't enough work to give everyone jobs. DH only sleeps about 3-4 hours a night the last couple of months, he's so stressed.

Chat Icon I know we hear about the recession nearly non stop, but sometimes it takes a familiar face to really hit us.

Chat Icon to your DH for helping him out.
