fiberglass surround or tub
just a general question, since we are having a home built..
would you rather have a fiberglass one piece surround or a tub with tiles ?
I picked a tub but the builder acted like giving me a surround was an upgrade, and to me I feel its cheaper..

Definitely a tub with tile.
I think a fiberglass surround is easier to install than a tub & tile...so that would be my guess as to why the builder would push for that.

Definitely tub with tile.
If not installed properly mold can grow behind those fiberglass surrounds.
My SIL had a house built and she regrets not getting tile.

fiberglass surrounds show scratches and wear much quicker than tiles.

We are currently tiling our bathtub area - it looks SO much nicer than a surround... but it is a pain in the @ss to do!

We are building right now too. We picked a tub with tile. It's not an upgrade to do the surrounds. It's actually cheaper. The expense by choosing the tub with tile is the cost of the tile you select and the labor to install the tile.
Do you have a fixed price contract? It sounds like your builder is lying to you about surrounds being an upgrade to put extra money in his pocket.

Do the tub with tile...we have a fiberglass surround thingy and I HATE it....I can't wait to redo the bathroom and put in a tub with tile.

thanks for the replies!
like I had said I told the builder "no"
to it and now will have a tub and tiles..
I know a surround is less money and definitely not as pretty..
I already have him putting nickel color hardware and french doorknobs on all doors...gold is NOT an option for me-LOL
