Fibroid surgery?

I'm not sure if this is the right Board or not but I recently lost my pregnancy at 21 weeks due to fibroid degeneration and I cannot get pregnant again until I have suregry to remove the fibroids. I know there are some options out there like Uterine Fibroid Emboliation and myomectomy. Has anyone had this or will be having one of these procedures? Any info would be great. Thanks!

I've had Fibroids so large that I was told I would have great difficulty getting pregnant unless I had them removed. My doctors and I discusses the options above but ultimately opted for surgery wherein an instrument in inserted vaginally in order to remove the fibroids. It's similar to a DNC. In weighing my options this was considered the least invasive with the least chance of scaring, though scaring is a risk no matter which procedure you go with. Which procedure you choose also depends on the placement and number of fibroids. In any case, many women have had surgery to remove and gone on to have uneventful pregnancies. I know it's scary no matter what.

Re: Fibroid surgery?

I had polyps removed from my uterus recently( January 2007) and my only advise to find a very good specialist. You want a doctor that performs this type a surgery on a regular basis not someone who performs this type of surgery every few months. The procedure I had was a hysterscopy with D & C to remove my polyps. I believe if your fibroids are small enough they can be removed by the same procedure which is a quick procedure with basically no recovery time. I was back at work the next day but cannot TTC conceive for 4-6 weeks.

After going to a few doctors I found a great doctor in NYC that specializes in fibroids and polyps.

Hope this helps!
