Finally, an affordable pvc arbor! Anyone have installation tips?

I've been looking for a white PVC arbor for our gate shown here:

All the ones I found were pretty pricey, and the styles didn't really "go". I didn't want to square it off again, considering thats all I have - straight lines. I wanted an arch.

Finally at Lowes last night, I bought this:

All the other ones seemed very bulky and busy. I wanted something simple in relation to the size of our house so it wasn't overpowering. I might grow vines on it, I might not.

It was $127., definitely the lowest I've seen. Since it's not something people are going to be hanging around on, I really only care that it stays upright and looks good.

Now... The installation... I haven't opened the box yet and I'm sure there's instructions inside. But my question is, if you did it yourself, did you set the feet in cement? The website doesn't say that you need to pour cement but I'm wondering if that would be a smarter move.

okay - I have a question for you...since you already have the fence and gate, where are you putting the arbor? DH and I are going to be fencing in a very small plot of land for our dog and i want to do white PVC with a gate and arbor and I have been trying to go cheap but quality since DH is in construction and will be installing himself, there are places online you can go and order the materials but I am confused as to how the arbor fits with the gate.
TIA!

Thanks Jen! Chat Icon

The short answer is, my arbor won't fit my gate. I'm putting the arbor directly in front of the gate. We had the choice when we had the fence put in to get the combo gate post/arbor but it was $500 or more. I didn't want to pay that much.

The only problem I could foresee is that the gate posts are set in concrete. So, depending on how wide the concrete is, I might have a gap between the gate post and arbor.

For your situation, maybe you should do the gate and the arbor at the same time, put the posts in the same holes and pour the cement around them? Your DH probably knows better than I do. Chat Icon

Thanks...I now that I think about it, its probably a good idea...We dont really have that much to spend on this, its been a tough year, but we feel really bad that our poor dog doesnt have anywhere to run around. I ahve been pricing out places online and have decided to wait until later to get the arbor.
