Finally had some Danielson training today!
It was good quality training...but, I still don't know what the final "observation" write up looks like.....
Is there anyone here whose school is using the DF and would be willing to share what their observation write up looks like?
Thanks!

Re: Finally had some Danielson training today!
My district uses Danielson, and quite honestly, you are better off not knowing. It is impossible to be highly effective during an observation, and looking at the criteria will only get you frustrated. Unfortunately, just being effective is going to have to be good enough.
Just make sure that you do group work, and call on all the students to do something. Make sure your questioning ranges from easy to more critical thinking.

I hate to hijack, but are there any resources for questioning? We focused on it, but I am still kinda confused...

I am an AP, so I am learning to use DF for observations....what I don't know yet is how to write up the observation. We are suposed to move away from the narrative...but no one told me next steps as to what to do...looking for examples of what the write up looks like......

How can you be using danielson if nyc hasn't adopted it? Uft states absolutely no Danielson and if supervisors use it, to report it right away. I'm not trying to start trouble just restating what I read and was told.

Re: Finally had some Danielson training today!
I think that what they mean by no narrative is to move towards citing evidence that supports components in each domain.

They use Danielson at my school and they write it up as a narrative. Everything is recorded in class and time stamped. It all has to be an actual observation made during the observation, nothing can be an opinion (although many admins have been including opinions...). So they could not write "the room is messy." They would need to write "there are 5 pieces of paper on the floor."

Re: Finally had some Danielson training today!
The state issued a Memo last week stating that as of Sept 2013, Danielson will be used. Your principal should have issued the a copy to the teachers.
In this case, the state supercedes the City.
I actually think it is a great move. Admins just need training and "they" need to figure out what the feedback will look like for teachers.
BTW, I dred the narrative write up....objective or subjective.....doesn't matter....who wants to read 3-4 pages of recall....

Re: Finally had some Danielson training today!
Our observations are from domains 2 and 3. The administrator brings either a note pad or computer to your class, takes notes, but then has to go click all or most of the boxes in those domains. They might provide a sentence to support why they clicked that particular box on the rubric. It takes a while to get it back.

Do you know what program they are using? teachscape?
So all you get pack is a check list like observation with a few shor sentences?
If that is the case, shouldn't it be faster then the narrative?

Re: Finally had some Danielson training today!
I believe Oasis. We get the entire rubric, and what they clicked, whether is be effective, or something else for each category.

My school uses Oasis as well. They click on what category you are in (highly effective, effective, etc) and then need to write statements to support their assessment.
