Finally some answers

Well my DR. got some more blood work back and it turns out under the MTHFR a single mutuation C677T was identified. I discussed this a little w/ the nurse and i am going for a consult with a specialist..
However, when i got home and was reading my results (iam not a DR.) Under the Lupus Anticoagulant Profile section it reads "PT with my result # in bold under flag it is in bold high. Also right under it is "INR with my # bold under flag it is in bold low. Also thee is a section PT and PTT under it reads INR with my number in bold under flas reads low.. Any ideas ladies... Could this single mutation thing be the cause of my recurrent miscarriage??? What are they going to do?

Re: Finally some answers

I have the single gene MTHFR mutation and they are saying that doesn't really cause major issues. From what I'm getting, all it means is that your body has trouble absorbing and using folic acid. They put me on Folgard which is a tiny pill I take every day. They said I will probably have to take it for the rest of my life. But thats basically it!

As far as your other stuff, I have no idea what any of that is. I would definitely talk to your doctor about it if they didnt talk to you about it already.

Good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Finally some answers

I am not sure exactly what al of that means in your case. I have MTHFR and another mutation something called 4g or something.
Anyway, I had miscarried 1 time and went to the RE 3 moinths later. It was there that they found out about the blood clotting disorder and we are treating it.
I believe, that MTHFR is the cause of m/c for people that have it. It's wonderful that you were able to get diagnosed so that you can move forward.
We treat my MTHFR with daily Lovenox shots, baby aspirin, metanx ( extra folic acid in the metanx). Knock on wood I am 33 weeks pregnant and going strong.

As LaurenExp posted they may put you on a pill like Metanx or Folgard for the rest of your life. I know that some of the ladies here see a hematologist which I will do after I have the baby.

I think so many people go through life with this problem without ever discovering it. I am glad you were able to get diagnosed.

Good luck!!!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Finally some answers

PT is time it takes your blood to clot INR is another test to measure blood clotting times

I would suggest you get a full immune workup. The link I sent you the other day is a great website to learn about immune issues and a complete list of testing. Clotting disorders are usually indicative of an immune response since it is all related. One mutation of C677T is usually nothing to worry about. Its two that causes the issues. I would suggest if you do want to go "out of the box" for now you see someone at SIRM where they are pretty aggressive with immune/clotting disorders.

Re: Finally some answers

A single mutation for MTHFR can go either way. Some people have no issues but some do and the doctors don't know why.
My sister has a single mutation. Her first pregnancy went perfect and she gave birth to a 9lbs 6oz little girl. Her second was a m/c due to chromosonal abnormality. The third was another perfect girl. But during her third pregnancy she developed clots in the placenta and had to go on Lovenox for her third trimester. It was scary and can't be explained why the first one was fine and the third baby was almost lost. So please be careful and ask for a proactive route. I would at the very least ask the doctor about baby asprin and Rx folic acid.
