Finding Out Sex and Family Reactions

DH and I have recently decided that we want to find out the sex. We were going to make it a surprise but as time goes on there are so many girl only or boy only things that we really like. Plus I am getting sick and tired of looking at yellow and green!! Enough already!!

So we decided to tell the family that the next time we get a sono we are going to find out what we are having and my side of the family doesn't want to know. They want it to be a surprise.

So, I say well if we don't tell you, you will be able to tell by the registry when we add gender specific stuff. And they said they won't buy off the registry then.

Now this is really bothering me. If we find out we are going to be really excited either way and I feel like they aren't going to be excited.

DH says its our baby and to forget what everyone else think but it hurts me to know that my parents, aunts and grandmother doesn't want to know.

Anyone else have this happen?

It happened to my friend...her mother said she would be DEVESTATED if she knew before the birth.

It got me so angry that a mother would react that way. Is it really that big of a deal???? I mean its going to be one or the other! I just don't get anyones negative reactions. Who cares how they find out?

I know this isn't really answering your question, but just want to say i'm sorry you're going through this.

The thing is...even if they don't buy off the registry....they will attend your shower, no?? Then they will see all pink/purple or blue/green...someone will slip along the way and they will find out. So tell them to **** it up and be happy for the baby boy or girl you'll be having!!

Yes, it seems as if everyone has something to say no matter what we decide.

I agree with your DH that you should do what is best for you.

I know. I wish everyone would just be supportive.

Everyone S U C K S. It's so fustrating, I guess I really needed to vent because it really hurts that my family is stubborn and can't join in the happiness.

I know that it's family, but it really stinks when they feel they can make your personal decisions for you. Like your DH said, you need to do what's best for you. If you decide to find out, you could always make two registries; one with things that can apply to either gender and one with gender specific things. That way people that don't want to find out can still get you something you want.
