Finger prick test for genetic abnormalities
So my BFF took this test about a week ago and turns out that she needs to go for genetic counseling. She went yesterday, but doesn't want to talk about it just yet since it wasn't good news and needs to go for furthur testing. Of course, the furthur testing, could show that everything is fine.
My OB does NOT do this test. Why do some do it and some not?

Some doctors feel that these tests have a lot of false positives/errors that go along with them. The results are not cut and dry and can freak people out for no reason.

I've never heard of a finger prick test for this, so I guess my Dr. doesn't do it. But hopefully the above is true for the OP's BFF and the baby is perfectly healthy.

Re: Finger prick test for genetic abnormalities
I had the finger prick test done along with the 12-week NT scan. Genetic counseling was required regardless of whether the results were good or bad. I guess every OB has different ways of doing things

Re: Finger prick test for genetic abnormalities
I didnt get this. I had my NT test and actual vials of blood taken to test for genetic stuff. The only time I had my finger pricked was when my endo tested my glucose levels.

I had vials of blood taken before I even got pregnant for the Jewish genetic disease panel and then the finger prick test done at the same timeframe as the NT scan but my dr sent home a packet to do the finger prick at home which was a little nerve wracking making sure we did it right.
