Did everyone change your fire detector batteries when we "Sprang forward"? I just want to remind everyone to take fire safety precautions.

We had a small kitchen fire in my house yesterday while I was sleeping, and not ONE smoke detector was in good working condition and had batteries and alerted us. I also have no idea where there is a fire extinguisher here, if there is one at all. I know a lot of people disable their smoke alarms in the kitchen because of normal smoke from cooking,e tc, but this is where many fires start. Please check!!

It was a stupid mistake and thankfully everything's ok, but it really showed me how important fire safety is and how much worse it could have been! PLEASE make sure you check fire detectors, get an extinguisher and learn how to use it, check frayed wires, and PLEASE do not store anything in the oven that doesn't belong there (that's how we ended up with a fire)...
