Fired without explanation today
So I was fired today with absolutely no explanation. In fact, when I asked for some sort of one, all i got was annoyance. I had no warning whatsoever that my job performance was not up to par - on the contrary, I was getting praised - so this came completely out of left field!
My hiring manager didn't even take the time to be involved with this process (she's based in the UK but easy enough to be on the phone!!) so I don't even see a point in trying to get an explanation from her. She was JUST telling my other colleague last week how happy she was with us both. My company is doing well so it can't be financial either.
Has this ever happened to anyone - lost your job without any rhyme or reason? And if so, how did you get past it?
I'm more upset about the 'why' then the money.

Re: Fired without explanation today
I'm so so sorry you're going through this. I thought they had to give you a valid reason? Either way, I'd still shoot your hiring manager an e-mail and try to find out what happened, if for no other reason then your personal knowledge.

So sorry you lost your job.
I am not a big poster on this board but I read every day. I am not trying to kick you while your down, but maybe help to answer the question of "why?"... you often post vents about work, not getting along with coworkers, complaints on events you worked on, you are disliked by head of the company and worried about being ousted, coworkers complaining you are dumping work on them, etc etc etc. I was actually not surprised to see this post after reading your other posts in the recent months. This job didn't seem like a good fit on either end. I wish you the best of luck in finding something new.

yikes! I'm sure she knows the outline of her job and what she has experienced and probably doesn't need a reminder, KWIM? and it makes it sound like her ousting was deserved...
I know you didn't mean for this to come out how it sounded (to me at least...) but previous posts of hers also included that she was well-compensated with bonuses because of her work and liked by a manager (but he or she wasn't the head honcho.) She has been there 3 or so years.
Also, she never said that coworkers were complaining she was dumping work on them - instead, she said she was dumped on. And I mean, everyone can complain about their co-workers - I don't know anyone who doesn't! And the big honcho sounded like a nut.
kwim?
Anyway -
OP: If you're doing well on reviews and getting bonuses and then get the ax for no apparent reason, I'd def. try to find out why!
Wishing you the best of luck!

Sorry but other than the work dumping (which I think was just a typo on Julie's part) I think she has a point. She may have been fired without explanation, and that really stinks, but all Julie did was point out that judging from her previous post there may actually be an explanation - from her venting about co-workers on a public site, to posting (again, on a public site) about going on a job interview.
It's really not hard to figure out from the posters old posts who she is, and it's possible that's what happened (that someone from her job saw her LIF posts). In addition to her not getting along with co-workers and the head of her company, that may have led to her termination. Julie was just offering some insight.
In the end, it doesn't sound like this place was a good fit for you, and I hope you find something better soon

I'm not usually a defensive person and can appreciate any feedback but I think this is a little ridiculous to be honest. I posted because this is a very supportive forum of lovely people. I am smart enough to know not to post this kind of stuff if there was even the remote chance that someone I work(ed) with was on this chat forum. If I wanted to be dumb I would've listed the company name.
Anyway, the reason why I was fired had nothing to do with my job performance and everything to do with being thrown under the bus. I found proof of this. So it is an unfortunate situation but there's nothing I can do about it now.

I was only pointing out that the site is public and you don't need to be a member to read the posts on here. You can do a simple Google search. I'm assuming that's your real name on your profile?
I really, truly wish you good luck

Re: Fired without explanation today
Ugh, this $ucks. I am sorry it happened to you.
It sounds like they just don't want to deal with any kind of confrontation.
I have worked with people like this that instead of dealing with an issue, will just ignore it and then get rid of the person with no explanation.
And yeah, I've also worked with people who were thrown under the bus too.
My last employer before my current one got rid of two people basically because they needed a scapegoat to save face.........not that these 2 necessarily did anything wrong.

Re: Fired without explanation today
I'm sorry you lost your job.
From my experience with terminating employees, they often miss the warning signs that their job is in jeopardy. I can sit down with someone, put them on a probation plan & they are stunned when they're fired a month or two later. When a probation plan isn't warranted, I'll speak to them about issues repeatedly & they just shrug it off like I was having a nice friendly chat or being hypercritical. Sometimes based on the nature of the termination & for legal reasons, we will give no explanation for the termination. It's not helpful to the employee because it usually ends up with the employee challenging the reasons & if we're telling them we're terminating them, we're not going back on it. Particuarly because it's employment at will & I'm not required to offer any reason.
I do agree with Julz. Just based your posts on this board, unfortunately it wasn't a surprise to me that this was coming. Take what you learned from this place (the politics, the blame culture, co-worker issues, etc). To be successful you do need to look at your part & how you can handle things differently going forward. (I know that's hard for anyone to see but it really can help).
You can find a place that is a better fit for you - and you will.

I would just take this as a time to move on and find a job you love. I was going to post the same thing. If you feel that you could grow professionally from learning why, then you can try to ask if there was something that they felt you could improve upon.
I hope you find something that you love soon!

Re: Fired without explanation today
its with julz...you asked not too long ago if you would be terminated...you knew, you were interviewing too...not that it doesn't hurt all the same, but still, you had an inkling..you mentioned it on here and you were interviewing..hope you find something better and are happy, this wasn't a good fit for you, especially with all the doubt and vents.
