Firing a nanny- Jordy is starting preschool!!
So since my nanny for over a year left us because of her DH's illness, my mom was watching DD herself. It became too much and last month we hired a part time nanny.
Well, she has been awful. She's late. Her first two weeks she took a day of each week (she only works 3 days), one of which was her calling in sick at 8 when she is supposed to be at my house at 8:30.
She barely talks to me when I ask her how things are going. She spends all her time at the house of the other girl she watches on alternate days (and I think she babysits her too). But until recently, Jordana seemed fine with it, so I let it go. I knew Jordana would be starting full time daycare in Sept. and I didn't want to introduce someone new into her life.
yesterday I had someone come to my house after work. She got there before me. When I came home, the nanny was in the bathroom and this stranger was in the living room alone with DD.
The last two days Jordana has been completely hysterical when we leave the house. This so SO unlike her. It really got me worried.
So I called the preschool today and they have a spot for her in the older class next week. Its the room she will be in September, but with the old 2's class (now 3). I am going to put her in the class.
So now I have to fire the nanny. I've never done this before. I feel bad firing someone without notice, but she has only been working for us a month. Of course I am going to tell her J just got into a full time daycare program, but any other advice on how to handle it?
I want to tell her tonight, but I'm sure she won't come in tomorrow if I do that. Or should I just wait until tomorrow. She is leaving for the Hamptons to stay with the other girl she takes care of.

My advise to you is if you need her tomorrow than don't fire her until then. It just seems that she is not very reliable so I thing shewould not show up once you told her.

I would wait until tomorrow. You don't want to be stuck tomorrow with no one (she will most likely not come tomorrow if you give her "notice" today). Be prepared to still pay her for 2 weeks though, even though she will no longer be working for you. That is kind of the norm.
Good luck and Congratulations on getting Jordana into full time care. She will love it!

She has only been with her for 1 month, I do not thinkg 2 weks severence pay is at all necessary.

I would just tell her what you told us...a spot opened up sooner than you expected in the preschool that you planned on using. I really don't think it sounds that bad. If Jordana is that unhappy, I would rather call in sick from work or take a personal day then have the nanny watch her again.

I agree. And I definitely don't think you need to pay her anymore.

Thanks girls!!
I am not paying her two weeks severance! She worked for me for a month and came late every day- even after DH and I spoke to her about it.
My mom can watch Jordana tomorrow. She is going to the hamptons to watch the other girl tomorrow and was leaving early. I am just going to give her the option to work tomorrow or not.
