First appointment on Monday - So nervous!

I have my first prenatal appointment on Monday. I think I will be between 8-9 weeks. I'm soooo nervous. Any words of wisdom on what I can expect? It's a new doctor for me too, I hope I like her.

i was sooo nervous too, but i kept trying to make myself feel better by thinking of the sono!! listening to the heartbeat.. it was a great feeling!

Yay!!

It absolutely made me feel better to get confirmation from the dr.

No words of advice, other than, don't expect too much. I was thinking I was going to go in and get all this information and get all this blood taken, but all my dr did was an internal sonogram and take some urine. And we only saw a sac, no heartbeat, so don't freak out if you don't see a heartbeat yet. Totally normal!!

Make sure you eat b/c they take a nice amount of blood (or they send you to a lab, depending on what your Doc does in the office.) My first OB appointment last year was actually with the NP b/c they did not do a sono or anything, just the blood, PAP & urine tests. She also helped me calculate my EDD.

if you're above 7 weeks, you will likely see your little bean, and maybe even a heartbeat when you have an internal sono.

if you only see a sac, you likely are not as far along as you thought.... maybe 6 weeks? My advice? Try not to freak out ifyou only see a sac.... patiently wait a week or 2 for another sono. you will have so much fun!

Just relax and realize its all going to be ok.
You may not have the same pregnancy as other women you know so try not to be expectations up in your mind.

Be prepared to pee
Be prepared to give blood
Be prepared to have your blood pressure taken (short sleeves)
Be prepared for a Pap
Be prepared for a doctor who may sound/act sorta ‘normal’ about your big moment, remember your doctor sees lots of first time moms.
Be prepared with any questions (what can I eat, meds, exercise, health, etc) Write them down ahead of time if you want.
Ask if they give you any materials, such as a maternity kit with info you can use (hospital, classes, medicine list, food lists, etc)
If you have any serious concerns or questions don’t be afraid to ask
If you want to see, hear the heart beat, ask. Don’t assume because everyone else got to do it, you should do, every office is different.
Ask how often they need to see you, do you or can you make appts ahead of time.
Where are the sonograms done going forward? That office or somewhere else?
Feel out the nurses and find out which one would be answer first time mom questions if you call in. My nurse is great!

Thanks ladies! keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well. Just want to see my baby and make sure he/she is okay.

I am sure everything will be great!! You will probably have a sono that day since you are over 8 weeks. They will also do a history and take blood. Enjoy!!
