First bday gift
What would you rather get as a first bday gift - clothes or toys? Also, what do you think is an appropriate amount to spend?

Re: First bday gift
I would have wanted toys but I had a ton of clothes...maybe a gift card would be best. The price would depend on who it was and where the party was...

Sorry, forgot to add that. Party is at their house and it's DH's friend from college. They're golf buddies but we only really get together when it's with all the friends from college or summer parties & christenings, communions, weddings, etc

toys and they could even be for when the child is a little older. As for how much to spend, it is up to what you can afford and who the child is. I would spend more on a close relative than someone in DCs classes.

Re: First bday gift
I usually do gift cards...1 is too young for the child to actually appreciate the gift, and with a GC the parents can get what they need for DC. I usually spend about $50, but we have only gone for first birthday parties for family/good friends. If it was someone I wasn't as close to, I would spend less.

I agree. Either gift cards or toys.
