First day of DayCare...first day back to work....
so why am I on the computer you ask? B/C DS decides that today is the day he will expel all the remnant fluid from when he had the Croup last week. He woke up this morning & "got rid" of a bunch of fluid. He then took a bottle & immediately expelled it. I called his DayCare and they recommended that I keep him home for one more day if possible. I said OK thinking I had a backup for today. Well my backup is sick & going to the Dr this morning. She thinks she might have the flu.
So here I sit. Not at work.
Working moms, how do you handle when your LO cannot go to daycare?
PS I am still waiting for someone at my new job to call me back & let me know what I can do for today if anything.

Can your DH come home and watch DS while you go to work? I know it's not perfect, but at least your manager will see that you are trying to get into work.

Re: First day of DayCare...first day back to work....
When Lucas is sick and cannot go to daycare DH and I have to make arrangements for one to stay home with DS. We try to alternate so that it's not always one person taking time but it's hard because he usually wants me.
So when it's really bad I try to be with him and when he's on the mend but not ready for daycare or when it's mild but we feel in his best interest to stay home...DH ususally takes those days.

He has a car apart right now & is reassembling it. As soon as he is done he can come home, but it was an engine job & could take 4 or more hours to re-assemble. I told them this at work.
He is not allowed to leave a car in parts, except in an extreme emergency.

Like Ang, we alternate.
We work at the same company so it gets really tricky for us, though our bosses have been really understanding so far.
Especially through ear infection season.
Did your contact at your new job sound understanding?

They finally just called. They told me to come in tomorrow but did not sound thrilled I told them at my final interview that I had a child, so they knew when they decided to hire me.
Once I am established I can work from home on occasion if need be...it is just until I am settled that it is going to be an issue.

Us too. My mom also helps out when she is in town.

Re: First day of DayCare...first day back to work....
For us, it depends on when they get sick.
If it is the night before they are set to go to school, I call my sitter and make arrangements.
If it is that day, I am the one they call and I am the one who picks them up. I will often bring them into work with me for a few hours.
But if one of us needs to stay home at the last minute, we try to alternate.
But there have been plenty of times that I am on the phone at the last minute scrambling to find one of our friends who can watch them!

Ugh! That totally stinks!!
I'm at a new job also- and I haven't had to call out yet- but at my old job, I would take a vacation day- and if it was more than 1 day that DD was sick, DH and I alternated days.
Hopefully Baby G will be all better tomorrow!

Re: First day of DayCare...first day back to work....
I feel your pain. I was out all last week with DS. and really would like to have kept him home a few more days, but the work struggle continues. it's so conflicting.
Thankfully there is a lot of work I can do from home, but it's guilt on all sides.
I hope your DC feels better!

there is nothing you can do but take care of DS>..your job will just have to get over it
