first day with cereal...
and it did not go well. DD cried the entire time. I felt horrible for her. Is it that she doesn't like it? Or is she just not used to it? And at what point do I stop trying? You don't understand I was so excited to be able to start her on this that I'm so disappointed that she didn't take to it. Any suggestion? Am I doing something wrong?

First of all It's so new to them in terms of texture and it can really freak them out. What was the consistency like? Did you use formula to prepare it? Was it warm?

You didn't do anythig wrong. It's definitely because she was not used to it! You have to keep trying-- she needs to keep practicing. My son screamed the whole time as well. It definitely got better the next few days. Hang in there!!

Re: first day with cereal...
We put a little cereal in her bottle to start getting her used to the taste. Then we started giving her just a little cereal - like a tablespoon of it. We tried that with her 2-3 times a day and after a few days I think she actually swallowed some - but you could tell it was by accident because she made this freaked out face. It was so funny. I'd say after about a week or so she started to actually eat it. But it wasnt until we started mising pears or applesauce in it that she really started to like it and eat a lot.

Re: first day with cereal...
Keep trying, Melissa. She will get it. It could be that she really doesn't know what to do with the spoon yet, either. It's so many new things all at once, a spoon, a new texture, new consistency, new taste, etc. Ava wasn't thrilled with it at first, either, and now the kid eats like 8 Tbsps of the stuff a day! I once heard it can take 12 tries to get a baby to eat something. So, persistence is key
ETA: I also gave it to Ava AFTER her bottle so she wouldn't be starving and frustrated.

Re: first day with cereal...
my doctor told me to give it to her when she was hungry not famish so she would take it. and it worked. then give her the bottle after. try very little to see how she handles it. also what type of cereal did you try first. i was told oatmeal instead of rice but every doctor is different.
